1. Analysis of viral and cellular gene expression patterns in cells latently infected with EBV by suppression subtractive hybridization
Sammanfattning : Epstein-Barr virus is a ubiquitous γ-herpes virus and causes the self-limiting lymphoproliferative disease, called infectious mononucleosis. Its presence is associated with several malignancies, including Burkitt lymphoma, gastric cancer and other malignant diseases. LÄS MER
2. Functional Studies of Some Immune Relevant Genes in a Crustacean
Sammanfattning : The freshwater crayfish, Pacifastacus leniusculus, mounts a strong innate immune response against microbes such as viruses and bacteria. In this thesis, a novel RNA interference (RNAi) method mediated with histone H2A was developed and applied in crayfish hematopoietic tissue cell cultures for gene functional studies. LÄS MER
3. Studies on mesothelial differentiation : prognostic and therapeutic approaches to malignant mesothelioma
Sammanfattning : Malignant mesothelioma (MM), a tumor with a poor prognosis, causes the death of most patients within a year of diagnosis since various treatments seem to have little effect on its outcome. The biological behavior of MM varies greatly, and this heterogeneity is related to its morphology, which may be epithelioid, sarcomatoid (fibroblastoid) or biphasic, the sarcomatoid phenotype being associated with a shorter survival. 4. Identification and characterization of WASP and FKBP-like protein
Sammanfattning : Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a chronic inflammation of the colon which together with the related Crohn s disease (CD) represent the major forms of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). IBD is believed to arise in a dysfunctional intestinal barrier which allows the normal gut flora to trigger an unwanted chronic immune response in genetically susceptible individuals. LÄS MER
5. Mesothelial differentiation, mesothelioma and tumor markers in serous cavities
Sammanfattning : Mesothelial cells covering the serous membranes are of mesodermal origin although they acquire several characteristics of epithelial cells. The cytological and histological diagnosis of malignant tumors in serous cavities is sometimes a major challenge: the main diagnostic alternatives are reactive benign mesothelium, mesothelioma and adenocarcinoma.
