  1. 1. Hydrophobic and superhydrophobic coatings for corrosion protection of steel

    Författare :Lina Ejenstam; Per M. Claesson; Agne Swerin; Jinshan Pan; Orlando Rojas; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :Superhydrophobic coating; hydrophobic coating; corrosion protection; contact angles; electrochemical measurements; surface characterization; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Since metals in general, and steels in particular, are vital construction materials in our modern society, the corrosion protection of said materials is of great importance, both to ensure safety and to reduce costs associated to corrosion. Previously, chromium (VI) and other harmful substances were effectively used to provide corrosion protection to steel, but since their use was heavily regulated around year 2000, no coating has yet been developed that, in a fully satisfactory manner, replaces their corrosion protective properties. 2. 2. Superhydrophobic coatings of wax and polymers sprayed from supercritical solutions

    Författare :Louise Ovaskainen; Lars Wågberg; Charlotta Turner; Eric Beckman; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; superhydrophobic coatings; polymer; wax; supercritical carbon dioxde; RESS; Chemical Engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Sammanfattning : The possibility of using supercritical carbon dioxide (scCO2) as the primary solvent in a spray process for producing superhydrophobic surfaces have been examined in this work. Using scCO2 as solvent will have considerably lower environmental impact compared to an organic solvent since scCO2 is considered a green solvent as it is non-toxic, non-flammable and recyclable. 3. 3. Fundamentals of Wetting and Mechanical Durability of Superhydrophobic Coatings

    Författare :Pontus Olin; Lars Wågberg; Fredrik Tiberg; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fiber- och polymervetenskap; Fibre and Polymer Science;

    Sammanfattning : In paper I the friction between three different superhydrophobic surfaces and water drops were investigated using high‑speed video. The surfaces were two based on a hydrophobic wax and the third was the leaf of a Lotus (Nelumbo Nucifera). The acceleration of water drops was measured as a function of drop size and surface inclination. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Numerical simulation of non-Newtonian fluids flow over surfaces

    Författare :Kazem Bazesefidpar; Outi Tammisola; Luca Brandt; Shahriar Afkhami; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; dynamic wetting; viscoelasticity; non-Newtonian fluids; contact- angle hysteresis; droplet spreading; self-propelled jumping; dynamisk vätning; viskoelasticitet; icke-Newtonska vätskor; kontaktlinjehysteres; dropparnas spridning på ytor; spontan hoppning av droppar från ytor; Teknisk mekanik; Engineering Mechanics;

    Sammanfattning : Wetting of surfaces by droplets of non-Newtonian fluids is important for various industrial and natural processes such as coating and cleaning of surfaces and inkjet printing, to name a few. Viscoelastic fluids are compounds of a very small amount of polymers and solvent. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Experimental Studies on CO2 Capture Using Absorbent in a Polypropylene Hollow Fiber Membrane Contactor

    Författare :Yuexia Lu; Jinyue Yan; Erik Dahlquist; Umberto Desideri; Mälardalens högskola; []
    Nyckelord :CO2 capture; Simultaneous removal of CO2 and SO2; Hollow fiber membrane contactor; Membrane gas absorption; Partial wetting; Surface modification; CO2-avskiljning; samtidig avskiljning av CO2 och SO2; ihålig fiber; membran; gas absorption; vätning; ytmodifiering; Energy- and Environmental Engineering; energi- och miljöteknik;

    Sammanfattning : In recent years, membrane gas absorption technology has been considered as one of the promising alternatives to conventional techniques for CO2 capture due to its favorable mass transfer performance. As a hybrid approach of chemical absorption and membrane separation, it exhibits a number of advantages, such as operational flexibility, compact structure, high surface-area-to-volume ratio, linear scale up, modularity and predictable performance.
