  1. 1. GDNF gene delivery in an animal model of Parkinson's disease. Long-term effects on intact, injured and transplanted dopamine neurons using lentiviral gene transfer

    Författare :Biljana Georgievska; Neurobiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neurologi; Neurology; neuropsykologi; neurofysiologi; neurophysiology; transplantation; tyrosine hydroxylase; tetracycline; striatum; substantia nigra; sprouting; regulation; neuroprotection; lentivirus; gene therapy; GDNF; behavior; dopamine; neuropsychology;

    Sammanfattning : Parkinson's disease is characterized by a progressive degeneration of dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra, leading to a loss of dopamine in the target structure striatum and development of motor symptoms, such as bradykinesia, rigidity and tremor. New experimental treatment strategies for Parkinson's disease are aimed at either preventing the degeneration of the dopaminergic neurons, or at restoring dopamine in the striatum by fetal dopaminergic transplants. 2. 2. Dopamine and the regulation of movements - significance of nigral and striatal dopamine release in normal, hemiparkinsonian and dyskinetic rats

    Författare :Daniel Andersson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :dopamine; substantia nigra; striatum; L-DOPA; dyskinesias; serotonin;

    Sammanfattning : Introduction: The nigrostriatal dopamine (DA) containing neurones are a pivotal component in the basal ganglia, a network that regulates movement. Degeneration of these neurones causes the cardinal symptoms of Parkinson’s disease (PD). LÄS MER

  3. 3. United in Diversity : A Physiological and Molecular Characterization of Subpopulations in the Basal Ganglia Circuitry

    Författare :Thomas Viereckel; Åsa Wallén-Mackenzie; Åsa Konradsson-Geuken; Erika Comasco; Per Svenningsson; Uppsala universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : The Basal Ganglia consist of a number of different nuclei that form a diverse circuitry of GABAergic, dopaminergic and glutamatergic neurons. This complex network is further organized in subcircuits that govern limbic and motor functions in humans and other vertebrates. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Experimental Studies of BMP Signalling in Neuronal Cells

    Författare :Susanna Althini; Ted Ebendal; Carl-Henrik Heldin; Ingrid Strömberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neurosciences; Bone Morphogenetic Protein BMP ; Growth Differentiation Factor 10 GDF10 ; Aktivne-receptor Like Kinase 2 ALK2 ; Tyrosine Hydroxylase TH ; Neurotrophic Factor; Neurite Outgrowth; Hippocampus; Catecholamine; PC12; Sympathetic Ganglia; Substantia Nigra SN ; Gene Targeting; Neurovetenskap; Neurology; Neurologi; Developmental Neurosciences; Medicinsk utvecklings- och neurobiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The developing nervous system depends largely on extracellular cues to shape its complex network of neurons. Classically, neurotrophins are known to be important mediators in this process. LÄS MER

  5. 5. The non-human primate as a model of human parkinsonism

    Författare :Alison McCormack; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Parkinson s disease; substantia nigra; aging; neuromelanin; MPTP; alpha-synuclein; levodopa; dyskinesia; methamphetamine;

    Sammanfattning : The motor deficits seen in Parkinson’s disease (PD) are the result of a loss of catecholaminergic neurons from the substantia nigra (SN) and the associated loss of striatal dopamine. Clinical signs become evident once striatal dopamine levels decline by at least 70-80% and nigral cell numbers by 40%, and worsen with increased duration of the disease. LÄS MER
