1. Soft Intelligence : Liquids Matter in Compliant Microsystems
Sammanfattning : Soft matter, here, liquids and polymers, have adaptability to a surrounding geometry. They intrinsically have advantageous characteristics from a mechanical perspective, such as flowing and wetting on surrounding surfaces, giving compliant, conformal and deformable behavior. LÄS MER
2. Improved mechanical properties of a polar polythiophene through copolymerization or blending with urethanes
Sammanfattning : Polar polythiophenes with oligoethylene glycol side chains are a developing class of materials that are great candidates for energy harvesting and storage as well as bioelectronics. The polar side chains enhance the compatibility with molecular dopants and improve the electrical conductivity and thermal stability of the doped material. LÄS MER
3. Effects of repetitive work on proprioception and of stretching on sensory mechanisms : implications for work-related neuromuscular disorders
Sammanfattning : The aims of the thesis were (i) to investigate the impact of repetitive low-intensity work exposure on proprioception and (ii) to examine effects of muscle stretching (especially sensory effects and effects on muscle nociception) and to relate its application to the prevention, alleviation and/or treatment of work-related neuromuscular disorders. The effects of low-intensity repetitive work on the shoulder proprioception were tested in healthy subjects. LÄS MER
4. Integrated Antenna Solutions for Wireless Sensor and Millimeter-Wave Systems
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents various integrated antenna solutions for different types of systems and applications, e.g. wireless sensors, broadband handsets, advanced base stations, MEMS-based reconfigurable front-ends, automotive anti-collision radars, and large area electronics. LÄS MER
5. Tailoring fibre and paper properties using physical adsorption of polyelectrolytes
Sammanfattning : The adsorption of polyelectrolytes, both as monolayers and as multilayers, was investigated as an easy and non-expensive way of producing lignocellulosic fibrous materials with enhanced mechanical properties. In the first part of the work described in this thesis, the adsorption of a polyelectrolyte monolayer onto the surface of unbleached and unbeaten kraft pulp fibres with different kappa numbers was investigated.
