  1. 16. Modeling the effects of knots in Structural Timber

    Författare :Christina Foley; Avdelningen för Konstruktionsteknik; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Material technology; Byggnadsteknik; Building construction; three-dimensional fiber paradigm; fiber deviation; knots; annual growth layer; material matrix; knot bump; structural timber; load carrying capacity; Materiallära; critical knot; knot distance ratio; local principal material directions; stiffness; materialteknik;

    Sammanfattning : The main purpose of the pursued research is to increase knowledge of the effects of knots in structural timber so that characteristics of weaker timber may be determined and applied to improve current grading techniques. In the process, a three-dimensional fiber paradigm was established, which describes variations of local principle material axes in timber containing knots. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Process-induced disorder of pharmaceutical materials : Mechanisms and quantification of disorder

    Författare :Samaneh Pazesh; Göran Alderborn; Jonas Berggren; Niklas Sandler; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Milling; Comminution; Powder flow; Amorphisation; Raman spectroscopy; Atomic force microscopy; Plastic stiffness; Elastic stiffness; Pharmaceutical Science; Farmaceutisk vetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : One of the most important prerequisites in the drug development is to attain a reproducible and robust product in terms of its nature, and its chemical and physical properties. This can be challenging, since the crystalline form of drugs and excipients can be directly transformed into the amorphous one during normal pharmaceutical processing, referred to as process-induced amorphisation or process-induced disorder. 3. 18. Congenital clubfoot : Aspects on epidemiology, residual deformity and patient reported outcome

    Författare :Henrik M Wallander; Göran Hansson; Sune Larsson; Michael Benson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Congenital clubfoot; incidence; ultrasonography; forefoot adduction; navicular position; spurious correction; Ilizarov External Fixator; subjective outcome; stiffness; patient reported outcome; norm group; gender difference; Orthopaedics; Ortopedi; Orthopaedics; ortopedi;

    Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this thesis on congenital clubfoot was to estimate the incidence with a national perspective, analyse residual deformities and their management, and evaluate patient reported long-term quality of life and foot function. Paper I was a prospective, nationwide sampling of 280 children with congenital clubfoot during 1995-96. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Effects of physical exercise on coronary and peripheral vascular function. An integrative physiological study from rat to man

    Författare :Ulrika Hägg Samuelsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :exercise; endothelial function; coronary flow velocity reserve; colour Doppler echocardiography; oxidative stress; gene expression; stiffness; ultrasound biomicroscopy;

    Sammanfattning : Physical exercise is beneficial for the cardiovascular health. Numerous epidemiological studies reveal that physical activity reduces the risk of cardiovascular related death. Nevertheless, the underlying vessel wall specific physiological and molecular mechanisms still remain incompletely understood. LÄS MER

  5. 20. Controlling the dynamic characteristics of machining systems through consciously designed joint interfaces

    Författare :Constantinos Frangoudis; Cornel Mihai Nicolescu; Amir Rashid; Bulent Tasdelent; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Production; machine tool; machining system control; joint interfaces; JIM; stiffness; damping; vibrations; machining process; milling; turning; deflections; accuracy; dynamic response;

    Sammanfattning : The precision of machining systems is ever increasing in order to keep up with components’ accuracy requirements. At the same time product variants areincreasing and order quantities are decreasing, which introduces high demands on the capability of machining systems. LÄS MER
