  1. 1. The galactic scale impact of feedback from individual stars

    Författare :Eric Andersson; Astronomi - Genomgår omorganisation; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; galaxies; galaxy evolution; galactic winds; interstellar medium; star formation; stellar feedback; runaway stars; numerical modelling;

    Sammanfattning : Feedback from stars is essential for the formation and evolution of galaxies. It is an energy source that drives gas motions and chemically enriches the galaxy by supplying metals. Without this stellar feedback, numerical galaxy simulations result in galaxies with little resemblance to those observed in our Universe. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Impact of feedback on the ISM of extreme starburst galaxies : The case of Haro 11

    Författare :Veronica Menacho Menacho; Göran Östlin; Armando Gil de Paz; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Galaxies; stellar feedback; ISM; Integral field spectroscopy; Astronomy; astronomi;

    Sammanfattning : Blue compact galaxies (BCGs) are compact, metal-poor, starbursting galaxies with characteristics similar to what is expected for the young high-redshifted galaxies. BCGs are among the most active in producing a large number of massive star clusters, each containing thousands of massive stars. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Star Formation and feedback at key physical scales for galaxy evolution

    Författare :Lorenza Della Bruna; Angela Adamo; Göran Östlin; Monica Relaño Pastor; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Galaxies; Star Formation; Stellar Feedback; HII regions; ISM; Astronomy; astronomi;

    Sammanfattning : Feedback from young, massive stars plays an essential role in the self-regulation of star formation in galaxies, and in shaping the galaxies' global properties. This phenomenon originates at small scales, surrounding the stars, but has been observed to be effective up to galactic-wide scales. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Star clusters as engines of galaxy evolution

    Författare :Mattia Sirressi; Angela Adamo; Matthew Hayes; Paul Crowther; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Extragalactic astronomy; Galaxies; Star formation; Interstellar medium; Stellar feedback; Ultraviolet surveys; Hubble Space Telescope; Spectroscopy; Data analysis; Astronomy; astronomi;

    Sammanfattning : Feedback in star forming galaxies is the key process that regulates how many stars form given the available gas reservoir. The radiation, energy and momentum released by the stellar activity and the active galactic nuclei change the physical properties of the gas in the galaxy such as the ionisation state, the density and the kinematics. 5. 5. The violent ISM in Haro 11

    Författare :Veronica Menacho; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Astronomy; astronomi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis introduces briefly physical processes operating in the ISM around massive starsand focuses on the impact strong stellar feedback has in creating large-scale structures in a galaxy.Stellar feedback is ubiquitous in star forming galaxies and its effect on the ISM depends strongly on the energy output from the most massive stars (M$\geq$7 \Mo ) and the properties of the surrounding gas.
