  1. 1. All CO2 molecules are equal, but some CO2 molecules are more equal than others

    Författare :Stefan Grönkvist; Mats Westermark; Lee Schipper; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; climate change mitigation; abatement of GHG-emissions; co-operation; district heating; waste-heat utilisation; Chemical engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with some challenges related to the mitigation of climate change and the overall aim is to present and assess different possibilities for the mitigation of climate change by: • Suggesting some measures with a potential to abate net greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, • Discussing ideas for how decision-makers could tackle some of the encountered obstacles linked to these measures, and • Pointing at some problems with the current Kyoto framework and suggesting modifications of it. The quantification of the net CO2 effect from a specific project, frequently referred to as emissions accounting, is an important tool to evaluate projects and strategies for mitigating climate change. 2. 2. Non-geological hydrogen storage for fossil-free steelmaking

    Författare :Joakim Andersson; Stefan Grönkvist; Simon Harvey; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; hydrogen storage; fossil-free; steelmaking; industrial decarbonization; hydrogen direct reduction; Chemical Engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Sammanfattning : In the last half-century, global steel use has increased more than threefold and further growth is expected, particularly in developing economies. However, steelmaking is currently responsible for 7% of the global net carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, and any substantial further optimization of existing processes that utilize fossil fuels for iron ore reduction is infeasible. 3. 3. The role of methane and hydrogen in a fossil-free Swedish transport sector

    Författare :Mårten Larsson; Per Alvfors; Stefan Grönkvist; Max Åhman; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; renewable transport fuels; biogas; methane; hydrogen; electrofuels; pyrolysis; well to wheel; transport policy; energy policy; Chemical Engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Drastic reductions of greenhouse gas emissions are required to limit the severe risks associated with a changing climate. One measure is to disrupt the fossil-fuel dependency in the transport sector, but it appears difficult and costly in comparison to other measures. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Biogas in Swedish transport – a policy-driven systemic transition

    Författare :Tomas Lönnqvist; Stefan Grönkvist; Thomas Sandberg; Mats Eklund; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Transport biofuels; Biogas; Forest-derived methane; Policy; Actors; Multilevel perspective; Barriers and incentives; Biogas production potential; Chemical Engineering; Kemiteknik; Industriell ekonomi och organisation; Industrial Engineering and Management;

    Sammanfattning : The thesis analyzes the conditions for biogas in the Swedish transport sector. Biogas can contribute to the achievement of Sweden’s ambitious targets of decreased emissions of greenhouse gases and an increased share of renewables in the transport sector, a sector that encompasses the major challenges in the phase-out of fossil fuels. 5. 5. Assessing Carbon Dioxide Removal methods amid uncertainty : soil carbon sequestration, biochar and harvested wood products as methods for climate change mitigation

    Författare :Alexander Olsson; Stefan Grönkvist; Mathias Fridahl; Anders Hansson; Lowe Börjeson; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Carbon Dioxide Removal CDR ; Negative Emissions Technologies NETs ; Soil Organic Carbon; Biochar; Harvested Wood Products HWP ; Socio-technical systems; Strategic Niche Management SNM ; Chemical Engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Measures to sequester carbon dioxide (CO2) away from the atmosphere have become increasingly important in the discussion of which methods humans can employ to limit global warming. These measures, which are broad and varied, fall under the umbrella of Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR) methods. LÄS MER
