16. Efficient computational methods for applications in genomics
Sammanfattning : During the last two decades, advances in molecular technology have facilitated the sequencing and analysis of ancient DNA recovered from archaeological finds, contributing to novel insights into human evolutionary history. As more ancient genetic information has become available, the need for specialized methods of analysis has also increased. LÄS MER
17. Parallel algorithms and implementations for genetic analysis of quantitative traits
Sammanfattning : Many important traits in plants, animals and humans are quantitative, and most such traits are generally believed to be regulated by multiple genetic loci. Standard computational tools for analysis of quantitative traits use linear regression models for relating the observed phenotypes to the genetic composition of individuals in a population. LÄS MER
18. Enhancing Direct Searches for Dark Matter : Spatial-Temporal Modeling and Explicit Likelihoods
Sammanfattning : Astronomical and cosmological observations on different scales point to the existence of dark matter. In the current cosmological paradigm this dark matter accounts for about 26% of the energy-density of the universe, yet has not been directly observed. LÄS MER
19. May the power be with you : managing power-performance tradeoffs in cloud data centers
Sammanfattning : The overall goal of the work presented in this thesis was to find ways of managing power-performance tradeoffs in cloud data centers. To this end, the relationships between the power consumption of data center servers and the performance of applications hosted in data centers are analyzed, models that capture these relationships are developed, and controllers to optimize the use of data center infrastructures are proposed. 20. Game-calibrated and user-tailored remote detection of emotions : A non-intrusive, multifactorial camera-based approach for detecting stress and boredom of players in games
Sammanfattning : Questionnaires and physiological measurements are the most common approach used to obtain data for emotion estimation in the field of human-computer interaction (HCI) and games research. Both approaches interfere with the natural behavior of users. LÄS MER
