16. Exploring Software Cost Estimation Inaccuracy
Sammanfattning : The inaccuracy of software cost estimates has for long been a source of frustration to software practitioners and cost estimation researchers. Despite huge efforts to improve this important practice, estimation accuracy is still low. This thesis uses empirical and theoretical evidence to investigate why this problem persists. LÄS MER
17. EM Estimation in Phase Type Models
Sammanfattning : This thesis consists of four articles whose theme in common is the class of phase type distributions. In the first article an EM algorithm is presented to estimate the parameters of a phase type distribution of fixed order. Also, it is shown that the algorithm can be used to approximate other continuous distributions by phase type distributions. LÄS MER
18. Distributed Road Grade Estimation for Heavy Duty Vehicles
Sammanfattning : An increasing need for goods and passenger transportation drives continued worldwide growth in traffic. As traffic increases environmental concerns, traffic safety, and cost efficiency become ever more important. Advancements in microelectronics open the possibility to address these issues through new advanced driver assistance systems. LÄS MER
19. Parameter and State Estimation with Information-rich Signals
Sammanfattning : The complexity of industrial systems and the mathematical models to describe them increases. In many cases, point sensors are no longer sufficient to provide controllers and monitoring instruments with the information necessary for operation. The need for other types of information, such as audio and video, has grown. LÄS MER
20. Iterative Road Grade Estimation for Heavy Duty Vehicle Control
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents a new method for iterative road grade estimation based on sensors that are commonplace in modern heavy duty vehicles. Estimates from multiple passes of the same road segment are merged together to form a road grade map, that is improved each time the vehicle revisits an already traveled route. LÄS MER
