1. Markets, Interventions and Externalities : Four Essays in Applied Economics
Sammanfattning : This Ph.D. thesis contains four independent essays summarized as follows. Effects of Competition between Healthcare Providers on Prescription of AntibioticsThe introduction of antibiotics as a medical treatment after World War II helped to dramatically increase life expectancy in the industrialized world. 2. Modelling and Numerical Analysis of the Centrifugal Compressor and its Operation in the Pressurised SOFC GT Process
Sammanfattning : Small-scale power plants based on the SOFC-GT (Solid Oxide Fuel Cell-Gas Turbine) system are foreseen for future application such as APU units in flight transportation systems or stationary power production. Although these new systems offer high load flexibility and potentially high efficiency, there are several constraints referring to thermal/mechanical stress of the fuel cell as well as to a potential risk of aerodynamic instability of the GT compressor due to the different physical behavior of the SOFC and the GT. 3. Evaluation, Experience and Potential of Gas Turbine Based Cycles with Humidification
Sammanfattning : Gas turbines, in simple and combined cycle, are common and economically profitable on the power generating market today. Several new cycles have been proposed as future competing technologies, but all studies about these cycles have, so far, been paperwork. LÄS MER
4. Operator Training Simulators towards Industrial Biotechnology
Sammanfattning : Biotechnological processes are carried out by applying advanced and demanding process strategies. Thus, fundamental understanding and knowledge about the applied microorganism is required to achieve high productivity and profitability. LÄS MER
5. Electrode degradation in proton exchange membrane fuel cells
Sammanfattning : The topic of this thesis is the degradation of fuel cell electrodes in proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs). In particular, the degradation associated with localized fuel starvation, which is often encountered during start-ups and shut-downs (SUs/SDs) of PEMFCs. At SU/SD, O2 and H2 usually coexist in the anode compartment. LÄS MER
