  1. 1. Time-related Aspects of Otoprotection : Experimental Studies in Rat

    Författare :Adnan Lidian; Matti Anniko; Petri Olivius; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :sensorineural hearing loss; Edaravone; brain-derived neurotrophic factor; auditory brainstem response; Sprague-Dawley rat; distortion product otoacoustic emission; Pseudomonas aeruginosa exotoxin A.; Oto-Rhino-Laryngology; Oto-rhino-laryngologi;

    Sammanfattning : Intratympanic injection of various otoprotectants through the round window membrane (RWM) might become available in the near future as an alternative to the currently available medical and surgical methods used to treat several inner ear diseases. The most common outcome of such diseases is sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL). LÄS MER

  2. 2. Computerised Microtomography : Non-invasive imaging and analysis of biological samples, with special reference to monitoring development of osteoporosis in small animals

    Författare :Mats Stenström; Gudrun Alm Carlsson; Carl Carlsson; Jim Elliot; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Computed microtomography; CμT; signal-to-noise ratio SNR ; non-invasive monitoring; morphological changes; Gastrectomized Sprague-Dawley; osteoporosis; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : The use of Computerised microtomography (CμT) in biomedical research is well established, with most applications developed at synchrotron facilities. The possibility to non-invasively monitor morphological changes in biological samples, makes it an attractive technique in biomedicine. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Ischemic brain damage following transient and moderate compression of sensorimotor cortex in Sprague-Dawley and diabetic Goto-Kakizaki rats

    Författare :Jurgita Kundrotiené; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Cortical compression; cerebral ischemia; neuroprotection; hyperglycemia; GotoKakizaki rats.;

    Sammanfattning : Several animal models have been developed to facilitate the investigation of biochemical, physiological, and neurological events after cerebral ischemia. In this study we present a new animal model which reliably describes morphological changes and neurological deficits produced by mild to moderate brain ischemia and which can be used to identify novel, potentially useful, neuroprotective agents. 4. 4. Safety limit estimation for cataract induced by ultraviolet radiation

    Författare :Xiuqin Dong; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Ultraviolet radiation UVR ; Sprague-Dawley rat; cataract; light scattering; doseresponse function; maximum acceptable dose MAD ; maximum tolerable dose MTD ; in vivo; in vitro; age.;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Ultraviolet radiation (UVR) is considered one of the major risk factors for agerelated cataract. UVR-induced cataract follows a continuous dose-response function. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Prevention of Experimental Cataract Induced by UVR

    Författare :Martin Kronschläger; Per Söderberg; Madeleine Zetterberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cataract; ultraviolet radiation; apoptosis; thioltransferase; caffeine;

    Sammanfattning : Cataract is the leading cause of blindness in the world and is defined by opacification of the normally transparent lens of the eye. The major avoidable cause of cataract is ultraviolet radiation (UVR), but no current strategies have been developed to prevent the onset of cataract. LÄS MER
