1. From family language practices to family language policies : Children as socializing agents
Sammanfattning : combining approaches to family language policy with a language socialization approach, the present thesis examines family interoctions in five bi/multilingual lronian families in Sweden. The foci of the thesis have emerged from viewing and analyzing video-recordings of the families' everyday interactions, interviews and observations conducted during two phases of fieldwork. LÄS MER
2. Tvåspråkighet, tänkande och identitet : studier av finska barn i Sverige och Finland
Sammanfattning : The aims of the thesis were to study (1) day care and school education of Finnish migrant children in Sweden, with respect to verbal, cognitive and identity development, (2) language as a tool of thought and the role of bilingualism in children's cognitive development, primarily with respect to Finnish children in Sweden, and (3) ethnic and individual identity of Finnish children and adolescents in Sweden and Finland. 3. Getting started : Children’s participation and language learning in an L2 classroom
Sammanfattning : Denna avhandling handlar om en förberedelseklass med elever (7-10 år) som har ett annat hemspråk än svenska (arabiska, kurdiska, thailändska). Utifrån empiri som samlats in genom videoinspelningar och observationer under ett års tid i en förberedelseklass studeras elevernas deltagande och språkinlärning i det dagliga klassrumsarbetet. Sammanfattning : The main aim of this dissertation was to explore L1 (Persian) and L2 (Swedish) reading and writing of 26 bilingual biscriptal children with and without reading difficulties (RD) (years 4–9). Sammanfattning : Effective writing is a crucial skill that requires not only the mastery of various sub-processes but also deliberate orchestration of those sub-processes within the constraints of limited working- memory capacity. In practice, some of those sub-processes, such as transcription (spelling and handwriting), need to be automatised to free up capacity for other processes. LÄS MER
