1. Volatile metabolites from microorganisms in indoor environments : sampling, analysis and identification
Sammanfattning : Microorganisms are able to produce a wide variety of volatile organic compounds. This thesis deals with sampling, analysis and identification of such compounds, produced by microorganisms commonly found in buildings. LÄS MER
2. Improved Neuropeptide Identification : Bioinformatics and Mass Spectrometry
Sammanfattning : Bioinformatic methods were developed for improved identification of endogenous peptides using mass spectrometry. As a framework for these methods, a database for endogenous peptides, SwePep, was created. It was designed for storing information about endogenous peptides including tandem mass spectra. LÄS MER
3. Bacterial identification by the 16S rRNA gene
Sammanfattning : The identification and classification of bacteria was initially performed with morphological methods applied on cultivated bacteria. It was not until the mid 1970s, when sequences of ribosomal RNA were discovered to be useful for bacterial evolution, that a new era started. This method showed to be far more accurate for bacterial identification. LÄS MER
4. Exploring the species boundaries in terrestrial clitellates (Annelida: Clitellata)
Sammanfattning : The biological diversity in the soil is much higher than most people can imagine, and a very important group of animals living there are earthworms and other clitellate worms. It has been found that several clitellate morphospecies are in fact complexes of so called cryptic species, and the number of species in this group may be much higher than previously believed. 5. Instrumental and methodological developments for isotope dilution analysis of gaseous mercury species
Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with instrumental and methodological developments for speciation analysis of gaseous mercury (Hg(g)), based on isotope dilution analysis (IDA). The studied species include Hg0, (CH3)2Hg, CH3HgX and HgX2 (where X symbolises a negatively charged counter ion in the form of a halide or hydroxyl ion). LÄS MER
