  1. 11. Numerical Simulation as a Tool for Studying Waves and Radiation in Space

    Författare :Lars Kristen Selberg Daldorff; Bo Thide; Francesco Califano; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; space physics; plasma physics; kinetic plasma; plasma simulations; beam instabilities; Space physics; Rymdfysik;

    Sammanfattning : Plasma physics governs the area of interactions between charged particles. As 99% of the visible universe is in a plasma state, it is an important topic in astronomy and space physics, where we already at an altitude of 60 km reach the plasma environment surrounding our planet in the form of the ionosphere. Författare :Pat Scott; Joakim Edsjö; Lars Bergström; Jan Conrad; Dan Hooper; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; dark matter; supersymmetry; gamma rays; dwarf galaxies; stellar evolution; cosmological perturbations; phase transitions; statistical techniques; Astroparticle physics; Astropartikelfysik; Astroparticle physics; Astropartikelfysik; Cosmology; Kosmologi; Elementary particle physics; Elementarpartikelfysik; Computational physics; Beräkningsfysik; Formation and development of stars; Stjärnors bildning och utveckling; High energy astrophysics; Högenergiastrofysik; teoretisk fysik; Theoretical Physics;

    Sammanfattning : The identity of dark matter is one of the key outstanding problems in both particle and astrophysics. In this thesis, I describe a number of complementary searches for particle dark matter. LÄS MER

  3. 13. From meteors to space safety : dynamical models and radar measurements of space objects

    Författare :Daniel Kastinen; Johan Kero; Asta Pellinen-Wannberg; Mats Holmström; Detlef Koschny; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Meteors; meteor shower; atmosphere; meteoroids; meteoroid stream; small-body dynamics; solar system; comets; asteroids; near-Earth objects; space safety; space debris; radar; MU; EISCAT;

    Sammanfattning : Every day the Earth's atmosphere is bombarded by 10-200 metric tons of dust-sized particles and larger pieces of material from space called meteoroids. Dust and meteoroids come from parent bodies such as comets and asteroids, which are remnants from the formation of the solar system. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Solar Wind Proton Interactions with Lunar Magnetic Anomalies and Regolith

    Författare :Charles Lue; Yoshifumi Futaana; Stas Barabash; Urs Mall; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; the Moon; solar wind; magnetic anomalies; regolith; space physics; plasma physics; particle-surface interactions; mini-magnetospheres; energetic neutral atoms; Space Physics; rymdfysik;

    Sammanfattning : The lunar space environment is shaped by the interaction between the Moon and the solar wind. In the present thesis, we investigate two aspects of this interaction, namely the interaction between solar wind protons and lunar crustal magnetic anomalies, and the interaction between solar wind protons and lunar regolith. Sammanfattning : The Jupiter Icy Moons Explorer is a planetary exploration mission that aims to study the moons of Jupiter in the planet’s vast magnetosphere. Among the various instruments on board is the Particle Environment Package (PEP), that is led by the Swedish Institute of Space Physics (IRF) in Kiruna. LÄS MER
