1. Self-Organizing Body Maps in the Spinal Cord
Sammanfattning : During development primary afferents grow into and establish neuronal connections in the spinal cord, conveying information of the anatomical and mechanical properties of the body. This body representation forms the basis for how we perceive sensory information and control our movements. LÄS MER
2. Somatosensory Circuits in the Central Nervous System
Sammanfattning : Spinal glycinergic neurons prevent spontaneous sensations of pain and itch, and development of persistent pain and itch conditions. The glycine receptor alpha 3 subunit (GLRA3) is suggested to be involved in certain inflammatory models, but not in acute nociception. LÄS MER
3. The Serotonin Transporter and the Vesicular Monoamine Transporters During Development
Sammanfattning : In the present study, the mRNA encoding the serotonin transporter (5-HTT) and two isoforms of the vesicular monoamine transporters (VMAT1 and VMAT2) have been mapped in the rat throughout gestation and early postnatal development using in situ hybridization, RT PCR and immunohistochemistry. 5-HTT mRNA was found in serotonergic neurons and VMAT2 mRNA in all monoaminergic neurons from early gestation. 4. fMRI for mapping the plastic somatotopy of primary somatosensory cortex - Development and clinical applications
Sammanfattning : Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) is a widely used tool for studying brain function in vivo. The technique is based on acquiring brain images sensitive to the physiological response following neural activation, and hence, allows brain activity to be examined and documented. LÄS MER
5. On mapping the human somatosensory cortex : fMRI and PET imaging
Sammanfattning : This work is based on experiments and simulations for the purpose of mapping the human somatosensory cortex. By using a combination of structural mapping (cytoarchitecture), connectivity mapping, functional mapping, and somatotopical mapping an overview of the organisation of the human somatosensory cortex at different levels is possible.
