11. Evaluation of the Tactoid Formation in Clay Systems
Sammanfattning : Clay minerals consist of anisotropic nanoplatelets where the majority of the clay minerals are highly charged, and thus, swell in aqueous solution. The structure and swelling depend on the type of clay mineral, and also on the ionic composition, and temperature. LÄS MER
12. On Phase Behaviours in Lipid/Polymer/Solvent/Water Systems and their Application for Formation of Lipid/Polymer Composite Particles
Sammanfattning : A new kind of lipid/polymer composite particle, consisting of a biodegradable polymer matrix with well-defined lipid domains, has been created. The lipid used is the water-swelling lipid monoolein (MO), which forms a reversed bicontinuous cubic diamond structure in aqueous solutions. LÄS MER
13. Microscopic views of drug solubility
Sammanfattning : The development of computational models for predicting drug solubility has increased drastically during the last decades. Nevertheless these models still have diffculties to estimate the aqueous solubility as accurate as desired. LÄS MER
14. Optimisation Challenges in Pressurised Hot Water Extraction of Polyphenols: Extraction and Degradation Kinetics
Sammanfattning : Pressurised hot water is an environmentally friendly alternative to hazardous organic solvents such as methanol and heptane. One of the many applications of using pressurised hot water extraction (PHWE) is to extract polyphenols from plants. The challenges in PHWE lies with the optimisation of extraction yield. LÄS MER
15. Meso-scale modelling of composites and semi-crystalline polymers
Sammanfattning : This thesis covers the first few steps of a multi-scale computer simulation strategy for predicting physical properties of complex polymers like composites and semi-crystalline polymers. Meso-scale simulations of crystallization and solvent diffusion in polyethylene as well as simulations examining the geometrical impact on the effective permittivity of composites have been performed.
