1. Microcalorimetric methods for direct measurement of solubility and solvent activity
Sammanfattning : New calorimetric methods for direct measurement of solubility and solvent activity are presented. The classical role of calorimetry for measurements of enthalpic parameters is abandoned and the technique is instead used for assessing thermodynamic quantities related to the chemical potential of a substance in a solution. 2. Drowning-out crystallisation of benzoic acid : Influence of processing conditions and solvent composition on crystal size and shape
Sammanfattning : The aim of the present investigation is to increase theunderstanding of the role played by the solvent in inhibitingor enhancing crystal growth. Drowning-out crystallizationexperiments has been performed by the controlled addition ofwater or ethanol water mixtures to a saturated solution ofbenzoic acid in ethanol-water mixtures. LÄS MER
3. Enzyme substrate solvent interactions : a case study on serine hydrolases
Sammanfattning : Reaction rates and selectivities were measured for transacylation of fatty acid esters in solvents catalysed by Candida antarctica lipase B and by cutinase from Humicola insolens. With these enzymes classical water-based enzymology can be expanded to many different solvents allowing large variations in interaction energies between the enzymes, the substrates and the surrounding. 4. Development of Polyamide Solvent Extraction Reagents for Trivalent Lanthanides
Sammanfattning : Rare earth elements (REEs), including lanthanides, are critical materials for many industrial technologies. As a result recycling of end-of-life products containing REEs might be beneficial, as this could partially satisfy the growing demands of industry for these elements. LÄS MER
5. Thermodynamic Toolkit for Chemical Recycling to Monomer
Sammanfattning : The design of polymeric materials for a circular economy is, to a largeextent, a challenge of thermodynamics. The work presented in this thesishas explored the thermodynamic features of ring-opening polymerizationand ring-closing depolymerization, to develop polymeric materials andrecycling strategies for chemical recycling to monomer.
