6. Atypical Solute Carriers : Identification, evolutionary conservation, structure and histology of novel membrane-bound transporters
Sammanfattning : Solute carriers (SLCs) constitute the largest family of membrane-bound transporter proteins in humans, and they convey transport of nutrients, ions, drugs and waste over cellular membranes via facilitative diffusion, co-transport or exchange. Several SLCs are associated with diseases and their location in membranes and specific substrate transport makes them excellent as drug targets. LÄS MER
7. Solute Carriers in Metabolism : Regulation of known and putative solute carriers in the central nervous system
Sammanfattning : Solute carriers (SLCs) are membrane-bound transporter proteins, important for nutrient, ion, drug and metabolite transport across membranes. A quarter of the human genome codes for membrane-bound proteins, and SLCs make up the largest group of transporter proteins. LÄS MER
8. The influence of multiscale hyporheic flow on solute transport : Implications for stream restoration enhancing nitrogen removal
Sammanfattning : Stream water that flows into and out of streambeds is called hyporheic exchange flow (HEF).It continuously interacts with groundwater and thereby affect the water quality of local streamreaches as well as downstream recipients by providing an environment where solutes andenergy can be retained and degraded. 9. Solute Transport in Fractured Rocks : The Effect of Stagnant Water Zones and Velocity Dispersion
Sammanfattning : The focus of this thesis is on the development of new models to improve our understanding of radionuclide transport in the repository “far-field” in fractured rocks. The proposed models contribute to the channel network concept and describe the recently developed models with stagnant water zones (STWZs) and channels with variable aperture allowing to consider their possible impacts on the overall transport of radionuclides in fractured rocks. 10. Solute transport through fractured rocks : the influence of geological heterogeneities and stagnant water zones
Sammanfattning : To describe reactive solute transport and retardation through fractured rocks, three models are developed in the study with different focuses on the physical processes involved and different simplifications of the basic building block of the heterogeneous rock domain. The first model evaluates the effects of the heterogeneity of the rock matrix and the stagnant water zones in part of the fracture plane. LÄS MER
