  1. 6. Data preparation, hydrodynamic and contaminant transport shallow-water simulations of Lake Victoria

    Författare :Seema Paul; Vladimir Cvetkovic; Jesper Oppelstrup; Roger Thunvik; Felix Mtalo; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Lake bathymetry model; Steady-state analysis; Numerical model validation; Lake water balance; Correlation and seasonal variations; Solute transport; Vattendjupskarta; Validering av numerisk modell; Vattenbalans; Korrelationer och säsongs-variation; Transport av lösliga ämnen; Mark- och vattenteknik; Land and Water Resources Engineering;

    Sammanfattning : This study explores shallow lake numerical hydrodynamic processes that support model development and validation, extreme events and effects of water circulation in Lake Victoria. Lake Victoria is the second largest freshwater lake in the world, and the largest in East Africa. LÄS MER

  2. 7. The influence of multiscale hyporheic flow on solute transport : Implications for stream restoration enhancing nitrogen removal

    Författare :Ida Morén; Anders Wörman; Joakim Riml; Roy Haggerty; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Hyporheic exchange flow; Hydrological modeling; Solute transport; Stream restoration; Nitrogen; Power spectral analysis; Hydraulic and Hydrologic Engineering; Hydraulik och teknisk hydrologi;

    Sammanfattning : Stream water that flows into and out of streambeds is called hyporheic exchange flow (HEF).It continuously interacts with groundwater and thereby affect the water quality of local streamreaches as well as downstream recipients by providing an environment where solutes andenergy can be retained and degraded. 3. 8. Solute Transport in Fractured Rocks : The Effect of Stagnant Water Zones and Velocity Dispersion

    Författare :Pirouz Shahkarami; Longcheng Liu; Ivars Neretnieks; Luis Moreno; Klaus-Peter Kröhn; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Channel network concept; radionuclide transport; stagnant water zones; velocity dispersion; modeling and simulation; Chemical Engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Sammanfattning : The focus of this thesis is on the development of new models to improve our understanding of radionuclide transport in the repository “far-field” in fractured rocks. The proposed models contribute to the channel network concept and describe the recently developed models with stagnant water zones (STWZs) and channels with variable aperture allowing to consider their possible impacts on the overall transport of radionuclides in fractured rocks. 4. 9. Generation of Leachate and the Flow Regime in Landfills

    Författare :David Bendz; Avdelningen för Teknisk vattenresurslära; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; teknisk geologi; Hydrogeologi; geographical and geological engineering; Hydrogeology; model; transport; flow; leachate; water; hydrology; landfill; MSW; teknisk geografi; Geophysics; physical oceanography; meteorology; Geofysik; fysisk oceanografi; meteorologi;

    Sammanfattning : The environmental impacts of landfills are associated mainly with the emission of leachate and biogas. Sanitary landfilling aims to stabilize the landfill in a efficient and controlled way, so that the environmental impacts are minimized. When a sanitary landfill has attained its final storage quality, it can be integrated into the environment. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Solute transport through fractured rocks : the influence of geological heterogeneities and stagnant water zones

    Författare :Batoul Mahmoudzadeh; Longcheng Liu; Ivars Neretnieks; David Hodgkinson; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Sammanfattning : To describe reactive solute transport and retardation through fractured rocks, three models are developed in the study with different focuses on the physical processes involved and different simplifications of the basic building block of the heterogeneous rock domain. The first model evaluates the effects of the heterogeneity of the rock matrix and the stagnant water zones in part of the fracture plane. LÄS MER
