  1. 1. Principles and Models of Solid Fuel Combustion

    Författare :Henrik Thunman; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; wood; single particle; modelling; fluidized bed; thermochemical conversion; fixed bed; coal; thermal conductivity; fuel loading; measurements; thermochemical properties; biofuels; combustion; grate;

    Sammanfattning : Combustion of solid fuels stands for a substantial part of the heat and power production in the world. In this thesis different aspects related to the thermochemical conversion of solid fuels in fluidized and fixed beds are treated, such as: the combustion temperature of a fuel particle related to the surrounding temperature in a fluidized bed combustor (FBC); the fuel loading in a FBC; a transient description of the conversion of non-spherical fuel particles; the thermochemical properties and composition of volatiles released from wood; the thermal conductivity of wood during different stages of conversion; the modelling of a grate furnace; the general combustion behaviour of a fixed bed on a reciprocating or a travelling grate; and finally, the design and construction of experimental units for investigation of combustion in a fixed bed. 2. 2. Modeling Aspects of Chemical-Looping Combustion for Solid Fuels

    Författare :Pontus Markström; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Cold-flow model; Residence time; Chemical-looping combustion; Solid fuel; Scaling;

    Sammanfattning : Chemical-looping combustion is a novel technology for combustion of fossil fuel. By using a circulating bed material to transfer oxygen to the fuel, a pure stream of carbon dioxide can be obtained from the flue gas, undiluted by nitrogen. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Modelling elements in conversion of solid fuels - fixed bed combustion and gaseous radiation

    Författare :Robert Johansson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; combustion; fixed bed; modelling; solid fuels; gas radiation;

    Sammanfattning : For a long heat and power production by combustion of solid fuels has time been an established technique. Environmental concern of emissions for NOx, SOx and other harmful species has caused an increasingly stricter legislation on the emission levels of the boilers. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Combustion Chemistry Investigation of Liquid and Solid Fuels

    Författare :Åsa Håkansson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; gasoline; flame; GC MS; heptane; combustion; pyrolysis; kinetics; emissions; wood; RME;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this work was to study the combustion of liquid and solid fuels with the emphasis on intermediates and products. Depending on the structure and the complexity of the fuel different reactors and methods were used. Small-scale laboratory reactors were built and chemical analysis and evaluation methods were developed. Heptane. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Combustion, Fluid Dynamics and Heat Transfer in Oxy-fuel and Air-Fired CFB boilers

    Författare :Sadegh Seddighi; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Carbon Capture and Storage; Combustion; Circulating Fluidized Bed; Oxy-Fuel; Multi-Phase Reacting Flow; Boiler Design; Emission; Fluid Dynamics; Heat Transfer;

    Sammanfattning : The studies described in this thesis develop and encode modeling tools for the design and scale-up of oxy-fuel circulating fluidized bed (CFB) boilers across a wide range of operational conditions. The modeling comprises fluid dynamics, combustion, and heat transfer and uses expressions that are proposed in this work or derived from the literature, together with experimental data obtained under both oxy-fuel-fired and air-fired conditions.
