  1. 11. A search for solar dark matter with the IceCube neutrino detector : Advances in data treatment and analysis technique

    Författare :Marcel Christian Robert Zoll; Christian Walck; Juan Jose Henrandez Rey; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; neutrino; WIMP; dark matter; cluster analysis; sun; IceCube; IC86; fysik; Physics;

    Sammanfattning : There is compelling observational evidence for the existence of dark matter in the Universe, including our own Galaxy, which could possibly consist of weakly interacting massive particles (WIMPs) not contained in the standard model (SM) of particle physics. WIMPs may get gravitationally trapped inside heavy celestial bodies of ordinary matter. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Ion dynamics and structure of collisionless shocks in space

    Författare :Andreas Johlander; Andris Vaivads; Robert F. Wimmer-Schweingruber; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fysik med inriktning mot rymd- och plasmafysik; Physics with specialization in Space and Plasma Physics;

    Sammanfattning : Shock waves form when supersonic flows encounter an obstacle. Like in regular gases, shock waves can form in a plasma - a gas of electrically charged particles. Shock waves in plasmas where collisions between particles are very rare are referred to as collisionless shock waves. LÄS MER

  3. 13. The Sun as a laboratory for particle physics

    Författare :Carl Niblaeus; Joakim Edsjö; Chad Finley; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; teoretisk fysik; Theoretical Physics;

    Sammanfattning : In the paper attached to this thesis, Paper I, we have calculated the flux of neutrinos that emanate from cosmic ray collisions in the solar atmosphere. These neutrinos are created in the cascades that follow the primary collision and can travel from their production point to a detector on Earth, interacting with the solar material and oscillating on the way. 4. 14. Development and simulated observations of the Jovian Neutrals Analyzer

    Författare :Angèle Pontoni; Manabu Shimoyama; Mats Holmström; Ove Andersson; Andrew Yau; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; space instrumentation; space physics; Ganymede; Jupiter; fysik; Physics; rymd- och plasmafysik; Space and Plasma Physics;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with the development of the Jovian Neutrals Analyzer (JNA) for the Jupiter ICy moons Explorer (JUICE) mission to Jupiter, planned to launch in 2023. Jupiter, the largest planet in the Solar System, orbits the Sun at five times the distance from the Earth to the Sun, accompanied by dozens of moons, rings, and the largest object in the SolarSystem: the Jovian magnetosphere. 5. 15. Electron Heating and Acceleration at Earth’s Collisionless Bow Shock

    Författare :Martin Lindberg; Andris Vaivads; Philippe Savoini; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Electron; heating; Acceleration; MMS; Shock; space; plasma; Electrical Engineering; Elektro- och systemteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Cosmic rays are ultra-relativistic particles traveling near the speed of light permeating the galaxy. Collisionless shock waves with their ubiquity throughout the universe and excellent capability of accelerating charged particles offer an explanation to the origin of cosmic rays. LÄS MER
