1. Electrostatic plasma waves associated with collisionless magnetic reconnection : Spacecraft observations
Sammanfattning : Magnetic reconnection is a fundamental plasma process where changes in magnetic field topology result in explosive energy conversion, plasma mixing, heating, and energization. In geospace, magnetic reconnection couples the Earth’s magnetosphere to the solar wind plasma, enabling plasma transport across the magnetopause. LÄS MER
2. Probing the solar wind evolution with kinetic waves
Sammanfattning : Charged particles constantly stream outward from the Sun to fill the solar system. These particles, consisting mainly of protons and electrons, form a plasma called the solar wind. LÄS MER
3. Solar Wind Proton Interactions with Lunar Magnetic Anomalies and Regolith
Sammanfattning : The lunar space environment is shaped by the interaction between the Moon and the solar wind. In the present thesis, we investigate two aspects of this interaction, namely the interaction between solar wind protons and lunar crustal magnetic anomalies, and the interaction between solar wind protons and lunar regolith. 4. Ion escape from Mars : measurements in the present to understand the past
Sammanfattning : Present-day Mars is a cold and dry planet with a thin CO2-dominated atmosphere comprising only a few mbar pressure at low altitudes. However, the Martian surface is marked with valley networks, hydrated mineral clays, carbonates and the remains of deltas and meandering rivers, i.e. LÄS MER
5. The induced magnetospheres and magnetotails of Mars and Venus
Sammanfattning : In this work we focus on several aspects of the ionospheres, induced magnetospheres, and magnetotails of the unmagnetized planets Mars and Venus. The solar wind interaction with unmagnetized planets differs from the magnetized planets: they are more directly exposed to the solar wind, and consequently can respond faster and more dynamically to solar wind variations, necessitating careful analysis of the driving conditions upstream simultaneously with plasma measurements in the system.
