1. Pregnancy Ultrasound Detecting Soft Markers – the Challenge of Communicating Risk Figures
Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on expectant parents’ experiences and needs when soft makers are detected at mid-trimester ultrasound, resulting in an unexpected assessment of risk for fetal anomalies. The thesis also describes the prevalence of ultrasonographic fetal soft markers and the incidence of Down syndrome in a low-risk population of 10,535 pregnant women with a total of 10,710 fetuses, as well as the risk of invasive prenatal diagnostics in conjunction with the detection of soft markers. 2. Pathogenetic Mechanisms in Soft Tissue Tumors
Sammanfattning : Soft tissue tumors (STT) constitute a heterogeneous group of tumors that arise in tissues of mesenchymal origin. They are currently classified according to morphology and resemblance to normal tissue into over 100 subtypes. LÄS MER
3. Genetic Profiling in Soft Tissue Sarcoma
Sammanfattning : Soft tissue sarcomas (STS) are a heterogeneous group of highly malignant mesenchymal tumors that account for ~1% of all malignancies. Frequent heterogeneity and pleomorphism along with suboptimal diagnostic reproducibility and insufficient prognostic markers make clinical management of these tumors difficult. LÄS MER
4. Markers for clinical outcome and therapy response in soft tissue sarcomas
Sammanfattning : Soft-tissue sarcomas (STSs) constitute a heterogeneous group of rare but aggressive tumors that originate from mesenchymal cells in almost any part of the body. Gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST), located in the gastrointestinal tract, is the most common type of STS. LÄS MER
5. Prognostic factors in soft tissue sarcoma. Tissue microarray for immunostaining, the importance of whole-tumor sections and time-dependence
Sammanfattning : In adult soft tissue sarcoma (STS) of the extremities and trunk wall, improved prognostic factors are needed to identify patients at high-risk for metastasis. Various factors are included in the many prognostic systems currently in use and the prognostic value of immunohistochemical (IHC) expression of biological markers is unclear. LÄS MER
