11. Molecular cytogenetic studies of soft tissue sarcoma : with focus on prognosis and acquired events
Sammanfattning : Soft tissue sarcomas (STSs) constitute a heterogenous group of highly aggressive tumors of mesenchymal origin that account for approximately 1% of all human malignancies. With the aim of eventually improving the diagnostics and clinical handling of these patients, considerable research efforts have been invested to understand the natural history of these tumors. 12. Morphologic and genetic features of sarcomas : improving diagnosis and exploring biomarkers
Sammanfattning : Sarcomas are malignant tumors of soft tissue and bone origin. They are a family of rare but diverse neoplasms which pose clinical challenges due to their heterogeneous properties. LÄS MER
13. The complexity of prognostication in musculoskeletal sarcomas. An analysis of four illustrative entities
Sammanfattning : Although malignant musculoskeletal tumors are rare, they encompass numerous entities with a wide morphological, clinical and prognostic spectrum. Sarcoma surgery is particularly demanding. Treatment must take into account the lesionís inherent biologic behavior, anatomic location and individual patient factors. LÄS MER
14. Electron Microscopy in Diagnostic Pathology with Reference to Mesenchymal Tumors
Sammanfattning : The experience acquired over a period of 15 years of diagnostic electron microscopy of fine needle aspirates and surgical specimens constitutes the base for this thesis. Some of the tumors analyzed represent rare soft tissue tumors, and consequently not very often ultrastructurally described. LÄS MER
15. Identification and validation of therapeutic targets in sarcoma models
Sammanfattning : In spite of the low incidence of sarcomas, they are highly aggressive tumors, with high metastatic potential, and resistance to both chemotherapy and radiotherapy, leaving surgery as the only treatment option. There is evidently an urgent need in identifying molecular targets and oncogenic pathways in sarcomas that can be used for the development and evaluation of drugs directed against these tumors.
