Sammanfattning : This dissertation builds on the basic question of how individuals are formed and created as citizens in society today, and how individuals construct themselves as citizens in this society. It takes interest in how they are managed to govern themselves through specific constructions of citizenship, and looks at how the exercise of power establishes certain knowledge that affects their view of themselves and generates truths about how they are expected to live their lives. Sammanfattning : In this dissertation local employment policy under the 1920s has been examined with regard to, among other, the following questions: Who had the power over the local unemployment policy? Did a town governed by the Social Democrats try to transform permanent employment into relief work? The dissertation is about Västerås, which in the 1920s was one of the larger cities in Sweden. Sammanfattning : The aim of the thesis is to describe how the political establishment understood the Elm Conflict (Almstriden) in Stockholm in 1971, and the way in which the establishment expressed that understanding when it made sense of the challenge to itself and to how local politics worked.
