  1. 6. Risk factors for cardiovascular events and incident hospital-treated diabetes in the population

    Författare :Payam Khalili; Peter Nilsson; Johan Jendle; Annika Rosengren; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Adiponectin; blood pressure; cardiovascular risk; diabetes; inflammation; pulse pressure; sialic acid; smoking; Medicin; Medicine;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of death worldwide. Well-established risk factors for CVD include increasing age, male sex, sedentary lifestyle, obesity, smoking, diabetes, hypertension, dyslipidaemia and low socio-economic status. Traditional risk factors do, however, not fully explain cardiovascular risk in general. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Tobacco smoking, vascular reaction and neutrophil activity in periodontal health and disease

    Författare :Lena Persson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Tobacco smoking has considerable negative effects on periodontal health. The mechanisms behind these effects may be related to the inflammatory response. In this thesis, the main aim was to study the influence of tobacco smoking on the inflammatory response in periodontal health and disease. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Lung T cells in inflammatory disorders : an approach to interstitial lung disease, multiple sclerosis and smoking induced inflammation

    Författare :Mahyar Ostadkarampour; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The lungs are constantly exposed to microorganisms and environmental irritants. Pulmonary inflammation is the result of an immune process to protect the body, and may sometimes eventually result in disease. T cells including various subsets are of major importance for orchestrating the protection of the lung as well as for inflammatory reactions. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Taxane-Induced Peripheral Neuropathy among Early-Stage Breast Cancer Survivors : Prevalence, Risk Factors, Quality of Life and Genetic Prediction Models

    Författare :Kristina Engvall; Elisabeth Åvall-Lundqvist; Henrik Gréen; Niklas Loman; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Early-stage breast cancer; Taxane; Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy; Risk factors; Polygenic prediction models;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Taxane-induced peripheral neuropathy (TIPN) is a common and distressful side effect. Little is known on how long TIPN persist and its effect on health-related quality of life (HRQL). LÄS MER

  5. 10. T cells and smoke-induced airway inflammation

    Författare :Mikael Mikko; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is an inflammatory disease primarily caused by longterm cigarette smoking. The disease is characterized by both tissue remodelling and an accumulation of inflammatory cells including macrophages, neutrophils and T cells, in the lung. LÄS MER
