  1. 1. Small bowel obstruction and toxicity of a new model of adhesion prevention

    Författare :Karolin Isaksson; Lund Kirurgi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; small bowel obstruction; predictive parameters; appendectomy; open versus laparoscopic; abdominal adhesions; prevention; polypeptides; toxicity; biodistribution;

    Sammanfattning : Abstract Background: Small bowel obstruction (SBO) is a common surgical diagnosis. If no signs of strangulation are evident, the majority of the patients can be conservatively managed. Approximately one third of the patients need surgical treatment and there is a need for early parameters that can predict operative intervention. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Membrane transport and the human small intestine : Relation to mucosal protection, intestinal anaphylaxis and nitric oxide

    Författare :Tina W. Knutson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Surgery; albumin; bicarbonate secretion; carbonic anhydrase; dopamine; duodenum; histamine; humans; hyaluronan; intestinal anaphylaxis; intestinal obstruction; jejunum; lidocaine; LOC-I-GUT; nitecapone; nitric oxide; potential difference; prostaglandins; segmental intestinal perfusion; Kirurgi; Surgery; Kirurgi; anestesiologi; Anaesthesiology;

    Sammanfattning : The tightly adherent monolayer of epithelial cells that line the luminal side of the intestine provides a dynamic and highly regulated barrier to the passive and active transport of ions, water and macromolecules. Cathecol-O-methyl transferase inhibition prevents tissue degradation of catecholaminesincluding dopamine and intracellular carbonic anhydrase activity is an important regulator of ion and water transport in the small intestine. 3. 3. Clinical and immunohistochemical studies of small bowel carcinoid tumours

    Författare :Kalle Landerholm; Johannes Järhult; Nils Wierup; Sture Falkmer; Roland Andersson; Bo Wängberg; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Small bowel carcinoid tumours arising from enterochromaffin cells in the jejunum and ileum are neuroendocrine tumours (NETs) characterized by secretion of serotonin, tachykinins and other bioactive substances. These substances may lead to the typical carcinoid syndrome as well as pronounced fibrosis locally and in the heart. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Surgical Aspects and Prognostic Factors in the Management of Rectal Cancer

    Författare :Kevin Afshari; Maziar Nikberg; Kennet Smedh; Abbas Chabok; Per J. Nilsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Loop ileostomy; Small bowel obstruction; Defecatory dysfunction; Stage IV rectal cancer; Surgery; Kirurgi;

    Sammanfattning : Survival among patients with stage IV rectal cancer is poor and surgical treatment for this disease is associated with morbidities such as small bowel obstruction, complications with a diverting loop ileostomy, and functional bowel disturbances. The overall aim of this thesis was to assess risk factors and morbidity after surgery for rectal cancer and to evaluate factors affecting survival in patients with stage IV rectal cancer. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Abdominal adhesions - clinical impact and experimental prevention

    Författare :Bobby Tingstedt; Lund Kirurgi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Surgery; orthopaedics; anastomotic healing; adhesion prevention; polypeptides; long term follow-up; cost; non-specific abdominal pain; abdominal adhesions; small bowel obstruction; ortopedi; traumatologi; Kirurgi; traumatology; burst pressure;

    Sammanfattning : Intraabdominal adhesions are formed after most operations and a limited number of studies have to examine the long-term spectrum of adhesion-related disorders and the cost associated with this. Only a few numbers of antiadhesive agents are available which, however, do not decrease the actual morbidity that follows intraabdominal adhesions, such as small bowel obstruction, infertility and pain.
