  1. 6. Regulation of TGF-β/Smad Signaling Through Smad Interacting Proteins

    Författare :Fumiko Itoh; Carl-Henrik Heldin; Peter ten Dijke; Carlos F. Ibáñez; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cell and molecular biology; Cell- och molekylärbiologi; Cell and molecular biology; Cell- och molekylärbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) superfamily members are multi-functional regulators of cell fate. These factors signal by binding to a limited number of highly conserved transmembrane type I and type II serine/threonine kinase receptors. These receptors initiate signals into the cell via the Smad proteins. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Mechanisms of Regulation of the Cell Cycle Inhibitor p21Waf1/Cip1 in TGF-β-Mediated Cell Growth Inhibition

    Författare :Katerina Pardali; Aristidis Moustakas; Carl-Hernrik Heldin; Marikki Laiho; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cell and molecular biology; TGF-β; cell cycle; p21; Smad; signal transduction; transcription; Cell- och molekylärbiologi; Cell and molecular biology; Cell- och molekylärbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : TGF-β is the founding member of a multifunctional family of cytokines that regulate many aspects of cell physiology, including cell growth, differentiation, motility and death and play important roles in many developmental and pathological processes. TGF-β signals by binding to a heterotetrameric complex of type I and type II serine/threonine kinase receptors. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Novel Regulators of the TGF-β Signaling Pathway

    Författare :Marcin Kowanetz; Aristidis Moustakas; Carl-Henrik Heldin; Caroline Hill; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cell and molecular biology; TGF-β; Smad; Id; EMT; cell cycle; SNF1LK; ubiquitin; degradation; signal transduction; Cell- och molekylärbiologi; Cell and molecular biology; Cell- och molekylärbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) superfamily consists of related multifunctional cytokines, which include TGF-βs, activins, and bone morphogenetic proteins (BMPs) and coordinate several biological responses in diverse cell types. The biological activity of TGF-β members is executed by transmembrane serine/threonine kinase receptors and intracellular Smad proteins. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Transforming growth factor-ß. Signal regulation in health and disease

    Författare :Urban Molander; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TGF-b; BMP; Smad; signal transduction; LDL; skin tumour; mesangial;

    Sammanfattning : TGF-b superfamily members have been shown to play a pivotal role in multicellular organisms. Knowledge about signal transduction pathways is important in order to understand and cure diseases like cancer where TGF-b´s growth inhibitory signal often are disenabled via mutated or absent signalling components. 5. 10. Keloids - A fibroproliferative disease

    Författare :Oliver Seifert (Bock); Inger Rosdahl; Mona Ståhle; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; keloid; TGF-beta; SMAD; quality of life; Dermatology and venerology; Dermatologi och venerologi;

    Sammanfattning : Keloids are a fibroproliferative disorder of unknown etiology developing in the skin after injury or spontaneously. The aim of this thesis is to gain deeper insight into the role of TGF-β and its signaling pathway proteins, SMADs, in the pathogenesis of keloids and describe the gene expression profile in different keloid sites in the search for potential target genes for future treatment.
