11. Control and Planning of Multi-Terminal HVDC Transmission Systems
Sammanfattning : With recent advances in power electronic technology, high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission system has become an alternative for transmitting power, especially over long distances. Multi-terminal HVDC (MTDC) systems are proposed as HVDC systems with more than two terminals. LÄS MER
12. Reliability-based evaluation of concrete dams
Sammanfattning : Swedish concrete dams are designed and assessed based on deterministic design using safety factors. The combination of increasing age, new methods for calculation of design floods and increasing demands by society to ensure a high level of safety, has resulted in upgrading and rebuilding needs for dams. 13. Improving emergency braking performance of heavy vehicles
Sammanfattning : Previous studies by the Cambridge Vehicle Dynamics Consortium (CVDC) have suggested that, by improving the control bandwidth of conventional Heavy Goods Vehicle(HGV) brake actuators and using a ‘slip control’ braking strategy, HGV stopping distances could be reduced by up to 30% over existing systems. The work covered in this thesis looks to: validate the CVDC’s previous braking performance predictions through Hardware-in-the-Loop (HiL) simulation, investigate how in-plane tyre dynamics may influence such a system’s performance, develop and build a next generation high-bandwidth braking system for vehicle implementation and carry out comparative back-to-back vehicle tests between the new system and commercially available HGV ABS. 14. Tribological behaviour of polymers in lubricated contacts
Sammanfattning : An important issue in hydropower and other industries is the increasing demand for introduction of environment friendly solutions. Mineral oil based lubricants have long been used in various sliding bearings in hydropower stations. LÄS MER
15. Piecewise Linear Control Systems
Sammanfattning : This thesis treats analysis and design of piecewise linear control systems. Piecewise linear systems capture many of the most common nonlinearities in engineering systems, and they can also be used for approximation of other nonlinear systems. LÄS MER
