1. Working Animals and Skeletal Lesions : Paleopathology of Cattle and Horse in Iron Age and Medieval Öland, Sweden
Sammanfattning : Central to this thesis is the relationship between animal husbandry practices and the associated pathological conditions. Since bone elements from the extremities are subjected to abnormal load when animals are put to hard work this research aims to go further and interpret the prevalence of varying lesions and their connection with animal husbandry by using methods such as osteometric analysis, conventional radiograpic and bone mineral study, as well as incorporated molecular analysis. Sammanfattning : The aim of the present study was to assess the validity of combining radiology and fine needle aspiration cytology in the diagnosis of bone lesions. 3. Metastatic bone disease
Sammanfattning : Aim: To evaluate epidemiology, prognosis and diagnostics in metastatic bone disease and identify risk factors for failure after operation for pathologic fracture. Patients: The study was based on patients treated for skeletal metastases, myeloma or lymphoma between 1986 and 1998 at the Oncology Service, Department of Orthopedics, Karolinska Hospital and on patients diagnosed with symptomatic skeletal metastases 1989-1994 in the Stockholm Region. 4. Tracing Prehistoric Activities : Life ways, habitual behaviour and health of hunter-gatherers on Gotland
Sammanfattning : In the present thesis, skeletal and dental evidence of physical strain and habitual behaviour has been investigated through musculoskeletal stress markers (MSM) and extramasticatory dental wear. The skeletal and dental traits have been examined in relation to health patterns and material culture in order to gain better knowledge of life ways of hunter-gatherers on Gotland with special focus on Pitted Ware culture sites and the Ajvide site in particular. 5. Radiological evaluation of bone marrow transplanted multipel myeloma patients
Sammanfattning : This thesis concerns radiological evaluation of bone marrow transplanted multiple myeloma (MM) patients. The diagnostic radiological modalities evaluated are: conventional radiography (RG); bone scintigraphy (BS); bone marrow scintigraphy (MS); magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The 242 included examinations are: 91 RG, 85BS, 33 MS and 33 MRI. LÄS MER
