1. Quantum Dot Solar Cells: Towards Environmentally Friendly Materials
Sammanfattning : To decrease the world’s energy dependence on fossil fuels, energy production and specifically electricity production needs to shift to more sustainable alternatives. One such alternative is solar cells as they directly convert energy emitted from the sun into electricity. LÄS MER
2. Homochiral crystals for selective synthesis
Sammanfattning : Six new coordination compounds were prepared from monodentate sulfide ligands and copper(I) halides and their crystal structures were determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The aim was to prepare coordination polymers that crystallize as conglomerates in order to use them in total spontaneous resolution. LÄS MER
3. Synthesis and binding studies of 9,10-disubstituted anthracene and dibenzobarrelene-based receptors for recognition of carbohydrates in water
Sammanfattning : Artificial, amfiphilic, and biomimetic receptors soluble in water were synthesized via attaching polar amino acids to hydrophobic back-bones possessing a surface suitable for hydrophobic interactions. The hydrophobic back-bones chosen in this thesis were anthracene and dibenzobarrelene structures. LÄS MER
4. Geometallurgy of a complex ore : Lappberget Zn-Pb-Ag-(Cu-Au) deposit, Garpenberg mine, Sweden
Sammanfattning : Complex ores, in this instance, a polymetallic base metal ore with additional precious and penalty elements, pose particularly tough challenges for successful production forecasts. Plant performance and recoveries for complex ores are more difficult to predict due to the larger number of variables that must be considered, tracked, and characterized during the multi-stage separation process. 5. Partial methane oxidation from electronic structure calculations
Sammanfattning : Investigating catalytic reactions with computational methods is a powerful approach to understand fundamental aspects of catalytic reactions and find ways to guide catalytic design. Partial methane oxidation is one example of a reaction with intriguing challenges, where a detailed atomistic approach may help to unravel the bottlenecks of this, as of yet, inefficient reaction.
