21. On Caries Risk Profile and Prevention in an Adult Saudi Population
Sammanfattning : Objectives. The aims of this thesis were to evaluate: 1) the caries profile in an adult Saudi population with several dental restorations using a computer-based program (Cariogram), 2) the prevalence of primary and recurrent caries and of filled tooth surfaces in relation to the Cariogram outcome, expressed as “the chance of avoiding caries”, 3) the quality of dental restorations and the additional value of using bitewing radiographs, 4) the effect of a “modified fluoride toothpaste technique” on the incidence and progression of approximal caries diagnosed on bitewings and 5) the preventive effect of this toothpaste technique on buccal and lingual enamel caries and to determine the role of patient compliance. 22. Treatment of early prostate cancer - reducing side effects without jeopardizing cure
Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this thesis is to gain further knowledge of how surgical choices affect the outcome for patients undergoing radical prostatectomy for early prostate cancer including preoperative evaluation and long-term prognosis after surgery. Within the non-randomized Laparoscopic Prostatectomy Robot Open trial, comparing the outcomes between open and robot-assisted radical prostatectomy, we evaluated the effect of preservation of the neurovascular bundles on postoperative incontinence (paper I), and recurrence of prostate cancer (paper II). Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to find occurrence of drug side effects in the elderly by studying the association between changes in clinical parameters and prevalence of self-reported symptoms and the use of drugs in an elderly population. The studies were performed in the Kungsholmen project, a longitudinal population based study of aging and dementia in Stockholm. LÄS MER
25. Pharmacogenetic aspects of HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria : emphasis on Ugandan population
Sammanfattning : Infectious diseases such as HIV, tuberculosis and malaria are endemic in Africa and often require concomitant treatments that may result into subsequent drug–drug interactions. Inter-individual variability in the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of drugs used in infectious diseases, as a result of genetic polymorphism, has been reported. LÄS MER
