  1. 1. Some New Methods in Sialic Acid Chemistry

    Författare :Teddy Ercegovic; Centrum för analys och syntes; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; thioglycoside promoter; ganglioside; Tumor-associated antigen; lactam; lactone; sialic acid; N-acetylneuraminic acid; Neu5Ac; sialyl donor; auxiliary group; 3- S -phenylthio; bis-sialic acid lactam; 3- S -phenylseleno; silver trifluoromethanesulfonate; iodine monochloride; Organic chemistry; Organisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : Gangliosides (G) are sialic acid-containing cell surface glycosphingolipids capable of forming lactones, i.e. inner esters. Some gangliosides are tumor-associated antigens, and they may serve as immunogens in their lactone form, where the latter is comparatively more abundant on the surface of malignant cells. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Glycosylation in cancer and infection : the role of sialic acid

    Författare :Yuecheng Zhang; Anette Wingren; Maria Stollenwerk; Lars Ohlsson; Martin Dufva; Malmö universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cancer; sialic acids; receptor; molecularly imprinted polymers; SARS-CoV-2; fluorescence; Health and society; Hälsa och samhälle;

    Sammanfattning : Sialic acids (SA), a group of nine-carbon backbone monosaccharides are abundantly expressed in vertebrates. They are usually linked to the terminal of glycan chains and play crucial roles in many biological processes, including cell adhesion, cell-cell interactions, immune modulation, cancer cell migration and invasion, as well as viral infections. 3. 3. Helicobacter pylori Sialic Acid-Specific Surface Lectin

    Författare :Siiri Hirmo; Enheten för infektionssjukdomar; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; bakteriologi; mycology; Mikrobiologi; virology; bacteriology; haemagglutinin; Helicobacter pylori; sialic acid; sialidase; gastrointestinal mucin; milk glycoprotein; Microbiology; resonant mirror biosensor; virologi; mykologi;

    Sammanfattning : Helicobacter pylori is a gastric pathogen colonising the gastric mucus layer and epithelium of gastric tissue and is associated with chronic type B gastritis and peptic ulcer disease. The attachment of H. pylori to gastric epithelial cells involves several structures recognised by specific bacterial surface proteins. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Connecting sialic acid expression to cancer cell characteristics : Novel tools for detection, imaging, and analysis

    Författare :Louise Sternbæk; Anette Gjörloff Wingren; Kersti Alm; Birgit Janicke; Håkan Eriksson; Magnus Abrahamson; Malmö universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Molecularly imprinted polymers; digital holographic cytometry; cancer; cytotoxicity; inflammation; sialic acid; Health and society; Hälsa och samhälle;

    Sammanfattning : Sialic acid (SA) plays a crucial role in many biological processes. Cell surface SA expression is usually analyzed with antibodies or lectins; however, they are costly and with poor stability. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Structural Insight into the Bacterial Sialic Acid Catabolic Pathway

    Författare :Rhawnie Caing Carlsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; sialic acid; bacterial catabolic pathway;

    Sammanfattning : A genetically diverse community of commensal and pathogenic bacteria thrive in the digestive system and urogenital tracts of animals. Many of these bacteria forage sialic acid from mucosal cell surfaces. LÄS MER
