  1. 1. Development of a ferritic ductile cast iron for improved life in exhaust applications

    Författare :Madeleine Ekström; Stefan Jonsson; Pamela Henderson; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Material development; SiMo51; HK30; exhaust manifolds; high-temperature corrosion; high-temperature low-cycle fatigue;

    Sammanfattning : Due to coming emission legislations, the temperature is expected to increase in heavy-duty diesel engines, specifically in the hot-end of the exhaust system affecting components, such as exhaust- and turbo manifolds. Since the current material in the turbo manifold, a ductile cast iron named SiMo51, is operating close to its limits there is a need for material development in order to maintain a high durability of these components.     Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Fatigue; low-cycle fatigue; fatigue in an inert atmosphere; fatigue in a synthetic diesel exhaust atmosphere; corrosion-fatigue; creep-fatigue; high-temperature corrosion; high-temperature fatigue; synergistic effect; corrosion-fatigue synergy; creep-fatigue synergy; high-temperature alloys; fatigue damage; creep-fatigue damage; corrosion-fatigue damage; ductile cast iron; high-alloyed austenitic cast steel; thermal cycling; precipitation; aging.; Teknisk materialvetenskap; Materials Science and Engineering;

    Sammanfattning : The future development of engines of heavy-duty vehicles towards reduced CO2 emission will increase the exhaust gas temperature and render the exhaust atmosphere more corrosive. The current service material of exhaust gas components - a ferritic ductile cast iron called SiMo51 - will soon meet its upper-temperature limit. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Oxidation and corrosion fatigue aspects of cast exhaust manifolds

    Författare :Madeleine Ekström; Stefan Jonsson; Ulf Olofsson; Babette Tonn; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; cast exhaust manifolds; high-temperature corrosion; high-temperature low-cycle fatigue; high-temperature corrosion fatigue; ductile cast irons; cast stainless steel; Materials Science and Engineering; Teknisk materialvetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Emission regulations for heavy-duty diesel engines are becoming increasingly restrictive to limit the environmental impacts of exhaust gases and particles. Increasing the specific power output of diesel engines would improve fuel efficiency and greatly reduce emissions, but these changes could lead to increased exhaust gas temperature, increasing demands on the exhaust manifold material. 4. 4. Creep Behavior of High Temperature Cast Materials for Exhaust Applications

    Författare :Christian Öberg; Stefan Jonsson; Baohua Zhu; John Hald; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Creep; creep behaviour; creep damage; ductile cast iron; high-alloyed austenitic cast steel; thermal cycling; tensile testing; stress relaxation; oxidation; precipitation.; Teknisk materialvetenskap; Materials Science and Engineering;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on creep of four cast materials intended for exhaust manifolds in heavy-duty truck engines. Two of the materials are ferritic ductile cast irons, SiMo51 and SiMo1000, one is an austenitic ductile cast iron, D5S, and another one is an austenitic cast steel, HK30. LÄS MER

  5. 5. High-Temperature Corrosion-Fatigue of Cast Alloys for Exhaust Manifolds

    Författare :Shengmei Xiang; Joakim Odqvist; Baohua Zhu; Johan Ahlström; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; High temperature; corrosion fatigue; low-cycle fatigue; cast alloys; high-temperature oxidation; intermetallic phase; Teknisk materialvetenskap; Materials Science and Engineering;

    Sammanfattning : The introduction of gas-driven Otto engine and the corresponding usage of bio-fuels in heavy-duty engines will render the exhaust atmosphere more corrosive and bring a higher working temperature to exhaust manifolds. The current service material, a ferritic ductile cast iron called SiMo51, will soon meet its upper temperature limit set by the ferrite-austenite transformation at 860ºC. LÄS MER
