  1. 1. Service Life Assessment of Harbor Structures - Case studies of chloride ingress into concrete and sheet piling corrosion rates

    Författare :Henrik Wall; Avdelningen för Byggnadsmaterial; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; chloride ingress; sampling methods; corrosion rates; sheet piling; ultra-sonic measurements; service life; durability; quay structures; harbor structures;

    Sammanfattning : The two most used building materials in harbor structures are undoubtedly steel and concrete. These two materials are often combined in the structures of wharfs and quays where the steel sheet pile walls often have cap beams of reinforced concrete. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Vibration transfer process during vibratory sheet pile driving : from source to soil

    Författare :Fanny Deckner; Staffan Hintze; Kenneth Viking; Steinar Nordal; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; ground vibrations; sheet piles; vibratory driving; vibration transfer process; instrumentation system; field tests; numerical modelling; vibration prediction; markvibrationer; spont; vibrodrivning; vibrationsöverföringsprocessen; instrumenteringssystem; fältförsök; numerisk modellering; vibrationsprognosticering; Byggvetenskap; Civil and Architectural Engineering;

    Sammanfattning : Vibratory driven sheet piles are a cost-effective retaining wall structure, and in coming decades the continued use of this method will be crucial for minimising costs within the construction sector. However, vibratory driven sheet piles are a source of ground vibrations, which may harm structures or induce disturbance. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Effects of deep excavations in soft clay on the immediate sourroundings-Analysis of the possibility to predict deformations and reactions against the retaining system

    Författare :Anders Kullingsjö; Chalmers University of Technology; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; MIT-S1; Sheet pile wall; Soil-structure interaction; Strain; Stress; Ground surface settlement; Finite element method; Case history; Shear test; Shear strength; Pore pressure; Analysis; Constitutive models; Plane strain; Elastoplasticity; Laboratory tests; Factor of safety; Stiffness; e-ADP; Earth pressure; Anisotropy; Soft Clay; Deep excavation; Retaining wall; Shear stress; Deformation;

    Sammanfattning : When excavating in an urban environment, the evaluation of the magnitude and distribution of ground movements is an important part of the design process, since excessive movements can damage adjacent buildings and utilities. In order to minimize movement of the surrounding soil, a retaining wall support system is used for deep excavations to provide lateral support. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Aspects on probabilistic approach to design : From uncertainties in pre-investigation to final design

    Författare :Anders Prästings; Stefan Larsson; Rasmus Müller; Jan Laue; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Reliability-based design; Geotechnical design; Geotechnical structures; Sheet-pile wall; Characterization of uncertainties; Geotechnical investigations;

    Sammanfattning : Geotechnical engineering is strongly associated with large uncertainties. Exploring a medium (soil) that is almost entirely and completely hidden from us is no easy task. Investigations can be made only at discrete points, and the majority of a specific soil volume is never tested. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Ground Improvement by Dry Deep Mixing Lime-Cement Column Panels as Excavation Support

    Författare :Razvan Ignat; Stefan Larsson; Sadek Baker; Sven Liedberg; Masaki Kitazume; KTH; []

    Sammanfattning : Many urban areas near the coastal regions of Sweden are characterized by post-glacial clay deposits with very low undrained shear strength and high compressibility. Column type ground improvement by the Deep Mixing, DM, method using a binder mixture of lime and cement is commonly used in areas with poor soil conditions due to its cost-effectiveness, predominantly for settlement reduction and to improve the stability of embankments.
