1. Numerical study of dense particle flows under planar shear
Sammanfattning : In this thesis I conducted numerical simulations to study the flow behavior of dense particle flows composed of hard particles under planar shear using the discrete element method. The simulations were carried out in two dimensional systems, where the particles are modelled as circular discs. The discs are non-Brownian and neutrally buoyant. LÄS MER
2. Rheology of cement grout : Ultrasound based in-line measurement technique and grouting design parameters
Sammanfattning : Grouting is performed in order to decrease the permeability and increase the stiffness of the material, especially soil and rock. For tunnelling and underground constructions, permeation grouting is done where cement based materials are pumped inside drilled boreholes under a constant pressure, higher than the ground water pressure. 3. Flow processing and gel formation for producing biopolymer drops with functional shapes and diffusion properties
Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on the development of novel processes which combine flow-induced drop deformation and simultaneous temperature-induced gel formation in order to create shaped biopolymer drops. The drops are functional in terms of rheology and diffusion properties, factors strongly influencing the consistency of food products and flavour or drug release. LÄS MER
4. Rheological modeling of particle flows in high shear granulation
Sammanfattning : High shear granulation is an important process in a wide variety of applications, more specifically in pharmaceutical industries as a basic step in the tableting process. The process includes two major steps: dry high shear granulation and wet high shear granulation. It aims at producing granules with a specific size and material composition. LÄS MER
5. Blood Flow variations in Large Arteries due to non-Newtonian rheology
Sammanfattning : The blood is a complex fluid that contains, in addition to water, cells, macro-molecules and a large number of smaller molecules. The physical properties of the blood are therefore the result of non-linear interactions of its constituents, which are influenced by the local flow field conditions. LÄS MER
