11. Capacity allocation mechanisms for grid environments
Sammanfattning : During the past decade, Grid computing has gained popularity as a means to build powerful computing infrastructures by aggregating distributed computing capacity. Grid technology allows computing resources that belong to different organizations to be integrated into a single unified system image – a Grid. LÄS MER
12. On the Role of Performance Interference in Consolidated Environments
Sammanfattning : With the advent of resource shared environments such as the Cloud, virtualization has become the de facto standard for server consolidation. While consolidation improves utilization, it causes performance-interference between Virtual Machines (VMs) from contention in shared resources such as CPU, Last Level Cache (LLC) and memory bandwidth. 13. Bringing Visibility in the Clouds : using Security, Transparency and Assurance Services
Sammanfattning : The evolution of cloud computing allows the provisioning of IT resources over the Internet and promises many benefits for both - the service users and providers. Despite various benefits offered by cloud based services, many users hesitate in moving their IT systems to the cloud mainly due to many new security problems introduced by cloud environments. 14. Computer simulations of the clinical encounter : perceptions and emotional aspects
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to examine the issues surrounding affective learning, perceived effectiveness, student motivation and engagement in computer simulations of patient encounters. Offering a high degree of realism, authenticity and interactivity, the Interactive Simulation of Patients (ISP) system, a Virtual Patient (VP) environment, was found to be a good technological candidate for conducting this research. 15. Performance Aspects in Virtualized Software Systems
Sammanfattning : Virtualization has significantly improved hardware utilization by allowing IT service providers to create and run several independent virtual machine instances on the same physical hardware. One of the features of virtualization is live migration of the virtual machines while they are active, which requires transfer of memory and storage from the source to the destination during the migration process.
