  1. 16. Studies on nutrition, body composition and bone mineralization in healthy 8-yr-olds in an urban Swedish community

    Författare :Susanne Eriksson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; body composition; bone mineralization; dual energy x-ray absorptiometry; healthy; lipids; metabolic markers; overweight; physical activity;

    Sammanfattning : Background: The incidence of welfare diseases including overweight in childhood is increasing worldwide. The results from a study of healthy pre-school children showed that in a population with well educated parents 17% of the children were overweight or obese at the age of 4 years. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : Metbolic disorders such as obesity, type 2 diabetes, liver lipid disorders and metabolic syndrome are increasing rapidly and have largely been attributed to genetic background and changes in diet, exercise and aging. However, there is now considerable evidence showing that other environmental factors, including environmental chemicals, may contribute to the rapid increase in the incidence of these metabolic diseases. 3. 18. 24-hour Ambulatory Blood Pressure - Relation to the Insulin Resistance Syndrome and Cardiovascular Disease

    Författare :Kristina Björklund; Jan Östergren; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Medical sciences; hypertension; ambulatory blood pressure; insulin; fatty acids; prognosis; morbidity; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Geriatrics; geriatrik;

    Sammanfattning : This study examined relationships between 24-hour ambulatory BP and components of the insulin resistance syndrome, and investigated the prognostic significance of 24-hour BP for cardiovascular morbidity in a longitudinal population-based study of 70-year-old men. The findings indicated, that a reduced nocturnal BP fall, nondipping, was a marker of increased risk primarily in subjects with diabetes. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Nutritional effects of barley products — Mechanisms of action in the intestinal tract

    Författare :Yadong Zhong; Kemicentrum Centrum för preventiv livsmedelsforskning; []
    Nyckelord :dietary fibre; malting; probiotics; high-fat diets; short-chain fatty acids; gut microbiota; low-grade inflammation; gene expression; Barley;

    Sammanfattning : Barley is one of the most important crops in the world. Although it is mainly used as the raw material for the production of beer and animal feed, it has recently attracted interest from nutritionists and consumers, due to its high content of dietary fibre, especially β-glucan, and its relation to various positive health effects.     Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; short-chain fatty acids; β-glucan; arabinoxylan; steeping; β-glucan molecular weight; Barley; microbiota; malt; Barley; malt; steeping; Beta-glucan; beta-glucan molecular weight; Arabinoxylan; short-chain fatty acids; Microbiota;

    Sammanfattning : Barley is a good source of dietary fibre, particularly β-glucan and arabinoxylan, to increase formation of short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs). Butyric and propionic acid are involved in the preservation of colonic barrier function, thus decreasing the risk of inflammation. LÄS MER
