  1. 1. On the hypersensitivity syndrome induced by the selective serotonin reuptake inhibiting antidepressant Zimeldine : A clinical and experimental study

    Författare :Bengt-O Bengtsson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Zimeldine; Norzimeldine; Hypersensitivity syndrome; Serotonin reuptake inhibition; Genetic disposition; Lymphocyte transformation test; Experimental allergic neuritis; Immunopharmacology; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : Zimeldine, the first selective neuronal serotonin (5-H1) reuptake inhibitor to be registered as an antidepressant was withdrawn from common use due to an acute flu-like adverse syndrome comprising fever, myalgia and/or arthralgia and signs of disturbed liver function. A few of these patients also developed a peripheral neuropathy, in the most serious form a Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS). LÄS MER

  2. 2. Influence of serotonin on anxiety-like behavior in rat

    Författare :Robert Pettersson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Anxiety; Serotonin; SSRI;

    Sammanfattning : It is well-established that serotonin is involved in the regulation of mood and behaviour, partly implied by the therapeutic effect of prolonged treatment with selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRI) on mood and anxiety disorders. However, the mechanisms behind the paradoxical exacerbation of anxiety described during initial treatment, as well as behind the therapeutic effects of prolonged treatment with SSRIs, remain poorly understood. 3. 3. On the possible role of serotonin and angiotensin for the respiratory abnormalities observed in panic disorder and premenstrual dysphoria

    Författare :Marie Olsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; panic disorder; premenstrual dysphoria; serotonin; paroxetine; PCPA; angiotensin; saralasin; respiration; respiratory variability; CO2; sodium lactate; female sex steroids; estrus cycle; Wistar rats;

    Sammanfattning : Panic disorder and premenstrual dysphoria are accompanied by intriguing abnormalities related to the control of respiration, including enhanced responsiveness to CO2 and enhanced respiratory variability. These aberrations do not seem to be shared by other psychiatric disorders, but appear to be relatively unique for panic disorder and premenstrual dysphoria. LÄS MER

  4. 4. 5-HT1A receptor ligands with putative antidepressant activity : pharmacological studies in the rat

    Författare :Lotta Arborelius; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :antidepressants; citalopram; dopamine; dorsal raphe nucleus; electrophysiology; frontal cortex; 5-HT; A receptors; microdialysis; serotonin; rat;

    Sammanfattning : Several studies suggest that serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine, 5-HT)IA receptor agonists possess antidepressant activity. Probably these agents exert their therapeutic effect through stimulation of postsynaptic 5-HT,A receptors. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Noradrenergic augmentation strategies in the pharmacological treatment of depression and schizophrenia : an experimental study

    Författare :Love Linnér; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The pharmacological treatment of depression and schizophrenia, two major psychiatric disorders, is largely based on modulation of central monoaminergic neurotransmission. However, currently available pharmacological treatment alternatives possess a relatively modest clinical efficacy, making them less than optimal. LÄS MER
