  1. 1. Clinical and Pharmacological Aspects of Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors in the Treatment of Depression in Old Age

    Författare :Jöns Lundmark; Finn Bengtsson; Leif Lindström; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Serum concentrations; cerebrospinal fluid; pharmacokinetics; selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors; therapeutic drug monitoring; elderly; depression; pharmaceutical economics; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : Objective: The aim of the present thesis is to examine the pharmacokinetic and biochemical effects of the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) in the elderly.Background: Symptoms of depression are found in up to 15% of the elderly and the prevalence of major depression is reported to be about 3%. 2. 2. Molecular genetic studies on cerebrospinal fluid monoamine metabolites in psychotic patients and healthy individuals

    Författare :Dimitrios Andreou; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Cerebrospinal fluid CSF ;

    Sammanfattning : Dopamine, serotonin and noradrenaline are the major monoamines in the human central nervous system (CNS) and following their basic pathways they are degraded to their major metabolites homovanillic acid (HVA), 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid (5-HIAA) and 3-methoxy-4-hydroxyphenylglycol (MHPG), respectively. The cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) concentrations of the three monoamine metabolites (MM) are considered to reflect the monoamine turnover rates in the CNS, are under genetic influence and have been associated with schizophrenia. 3. 3. The Relation between Serotonergic Biomarkers and Behaviour : – studies on human primates, non-human primates and transgenic mice

    Författare :Hanna-Linn Wargelius; Dan Larhammar; Lars Oreland; Claudia Fahlke; Elias Eriksson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Serotonin; MAO-A; 5-HTT; MAO-B; alcohol; ADHD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Medicin; Medicine; Neuroscience; Neurovetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Rationale: The serotonergic system is involved in the modulation of emotion and plays an important role for personality and vulnerability for psychiatric disorders. In the papers included in this thesis, we investigate three biological factors that have been studied in relation to psychiatric symptoms: Platelet monoamine oxidase B (MAO-B) activity, and variations in the MAO-A and the serotonin transporter (5HTT) genes. 4. 4. Neurochemical and neuroendocrine reactions during non-neurological surgery

    Författare :Rolf Anckarsäter; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :albumin; beta-2-microglobulin; blood brain barrier; cerebrospinal fluid; infammation; spinal anesthesia; stress;

    Sammanfattning : Abstract Objective: To study changes in serum and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) proteins, monoamine metabolites and hormones during non-neurological surgery. Subjects and methods: Thirty-five patients without neurological or psychiatric disorders undergoing knee replacements had CSF and serum samples drawn from spinal and arterial catheters before, three hours after and on the morning after surgery. 5. 5. Lumbar puncture in psychiatric research : on the impact of confounding factors on monoamine compounds in cerebrospinal fluid

    Författare :Thomas Eklundh; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :cerebrospinal fluid; lumbar puncture; monoamine compounds; confounding factors; atmospheric pressure; pathological gambling;

    Sammanfattning : Lumbar puncture has for many years been a tool for investigations of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) in man. The method has been in use since 1891 and is common in neurology, and other medical specialities. LÄS MER
