  1. 1. Porous polymeric materials for chromatography : Synthesis, functionalization and characterization

    Författare :Emil Byström; Knut Irgum; Camilla Viklund; Solomon Tesfalidet; Klaus K Unger; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; porous polymer monolith; pore size distribution; nitrogen sorptiometry; mercury intrusion porosimetry; scanning and transmission electron microscopy; plasma functionalization; Analytical chemistry; Analytisk kemi; Separation methods; Separationsmetoder; Polymer chemistry; Polymerkemi; analytisk kemi; Analytical Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Separation science is heavily reliant on materials to fulfill ever more complicated demands raised by other areas of science, notably the rapidly expanding molecular biosciences and environmental monitoring. The key to successful separations lies in a combination of physical properties and surface chemistry of stationary phases used in liquid chromatographic separation, and this thesis address both aspects of novel separation materials. 2. 2. Mass Spectrometry of Biologically Active Small Molecules : Focusing on polyphenols, alkaloids and amino acids

    Författare :Zdeněk Spáčil; Leopold L. Ilag; Frantisek Turecek; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; LC-MS; LDI; Mass spectrometry; HPLC; UHPLC; polyphenols; phenolic acids; BMAA; Separation methods; Separationsmetoder; Analytical chemistry; Analytisk kemi; Analytical Chemistry; analytisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : The foci of this dissertation are on advanced liquid chromatography (LC) separation and mass spectrometry (MS) techniques for the analysis of small bioactive molecules. In addition to discussing general aspects of such techniques the results from analyses of polyphenols (PPs), alkaloids and amino acids published in five appended studies are presented and discussed. 3. 3. Downstream Processing Using Membrane Technology

    Författare :Anna Persson; Avdelningen för kemiteknik; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Kemiteknik och kemisk teknologi; Biochemical technology; Chemical technology and engineering; Protein A; Bovine serum albumin; Lactic acid; Electrodialysis; Ultrafiltration; Microfiltration; Downstream processing; Membrane; Biokemisk teknik;

    Sammanfattning : Membrane filtration is a very gentle separation technique and can be used at low temperatures. This makes it suitable for liquids that contain micro-organisms and/or are heat sensitive, which is often the case in liquids processed in the field of biotechnology. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Asymmetrical Flow Field-Flow Fractionation in the Application to Biological Macromolecules

    Författare :Cecilia Arfvidsson; Centrum för analys och syntes; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Analytical chemistry; Analytisk kemi; Bioteknik; Biotechnology; biotechnology; recombinant protein production; molecular weight; Escherichia coli; ribosomes; glutenin; asymmetrical flow field-flow fractionation; multiangle light scattering;

    Sammanfattning : Asymmetrical flow field-flow fractionation (AsFlFFF) is especially useful in the application to biological macromolecules due to the absence of a stationary phase in the separation channel. As a result no upper exclusion limit occurs and low shear forces affect the sample components. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Expression and purification of membrane proteins: Focus on the G-protein coupled receptor MC4r

    Författare :Viveka Dolby; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; enzymology; Proteiner; enzymologi; Proteins; melanocortin 4 receptor; GPCR; purification; Expression; membrane proteins;

    Sammanfattning : Membrane proteins are crucial components of the cell and are involved in many biological processes. Recombinant overexpression systems together with different purification methods are necessary to obtain large amounts of purified receptor for biophysical and functional studies. LÄS MER
