  1. 1. On VEGF and related factors in neurotrauma

    Författare :Mattias Sköld; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Spinal cord; brain; motoneuron; VEGF; VEGFR1; VEGFR2; Np1; Np2; Sema3A; HIF1alpha;

    Sammanfattning : At present, there is no cure for traumatic spinal cord and brain injuries. Therapies in use have only modest effect on outcome. Therefore, the need to better understand the biology of traumatic CNS injuries, making development of new therapies possible, is huge. LÄS MER

  2. 2. On traumatic lesion to the spinal cord and dorsal spinal roots : factors influencing axonal regrowth across the border between the central and peripheral nervous system in the rat and man

    Författare :Tomas Lindholm; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Immunohistochemistry; in situ hybridization; rat; man; axotomy; regeneration; motoneuron; ; CNS; PNS; tenascin; macrophages; BBB; scar; neuregulin; ErbB3 4; semaphorin; neuropilin; VEGF; olfactory system; DRG; DRT; SNT; SNC.;

    Sammanfattning : Nerve cells are depending on their environment. Glial cells, astrocytes and oligodendrocytes in the central nervous system (CNS) make up a totally different milieu and characteristics than the distinguishing qualities of the peripheral nervous system (PNS), where the nerve cells are surrounded by Schwann cells. 3. 3. War and peace in the tumor microenvironment : tumor-associated cells as facilitators or adversaries during tumor development

    Författare :Margarita Bartish; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The tumor microenvironment, including immune cells, fibroblasts and vasculature, profoundly affects tumor development by initially opposing, but eventually facilitating tumor growth, vascularization and spread. Though corrupted by the growing tumor, such cells remain non-transformed and thus, with proper cues, are possible to direct toward their physiological anti-tumor function. LÄS MER
