21. On the colloidal and molecular aspects of peptide self-assembly
Sammanfattning : Peptide self-assembly is a spontaneous process, ubiquitous in nature for the creation of highly ordered and complex biological structures, making it a sought after technique in the development of novel biocompatible materials. The process is also strongly associated with various neurodegenerative diseases in the formation of amyloid plaques in diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s, where fully functioning proteins aggregate are reassembled into nonfunctional fibrillar aggregates that eventually lead to cell death. 22. Lipid Self-Assembly and Lipase Action
Sammanfattning : In this thesis the action of the Thermomyces lanuginosa lipase (TLL) on "real" substrates, that is, lipid aggregates - vesicles, micelles, emulsions, gels and liquid crystals is discussed. Even for a pure triolein, the system becomes quite complex as the lipolytic process starts, both in terms of structure and composition, involving 5 additional components - diolein (DO), monoolein (MO), oleic acid (OA), sodium oleate (NaO) and glycerol . 24. Self-assembly in Melts of Block copolymer-based Systems Featuring Supramolecular Interactions
Sammanfattning : The subject of this thesis is experimental investigation of self-assembly in solvent-free (ionic) macromolecular systems that contain block copolymer chains as the basic constituent component in combination with low molecular weight amphiphiles. In particular, especial attention is paid to study thoroughly a new class of block copolymer-based ionic supramolecules, named as Linear-b-AmphComb, that feature novel hierarchical self-assembly characteristics. 25. Self-Assembly in Lipid-Protein Systems : Lung Surfactant, Stratum Corneum and Model Membranes
Sammanfattning : This thesis explores lipid self-assembly and aims to give a broad picture of self-assembly structures in simple and complex lipid-protein systems. The systems studied are lung surfactant, stratum corneum and simple model membranes. The lung surfactant mixture lines the alveolus in our lungs and stabilises the air- tissue interface. LÄS MER
