  1. 1. Selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitors in the environment : Effects of citalopram on fish behaviour

    Författare :Martin Kellner; Håkan Olsén; Inger Porsch-Hällström; Magnus Breitholtz; Södertörns högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Citalopram; SSRI; stickleback; Baltic; behaviour; fish; feeding; anxiety; boldness; serotonin; development; Storspigg; serotonin; östersjön; SSRI; läkemedel; miljö; citalopram; ätbeteende; beteende; utveckling; Environmental Studies; Miljövetenskapliga studier; Östersjö- och Östeuropaforskning; Baltic and East European studies;

    Sammanfattning : Selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitors (SSRIs) are a class of anxiolytic and anti-depressant drugs. SSRIs act on the evolutionarily ancient serotonergic system which is virtually identical throughout the vertebrate phylum. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Deposit-feeding in benthic macrofauna : Tracer studies from the Baltic Sea

    Författare :Lars Byrén; Ragnar Elmgren; Lisa A. Levin; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Deposit-feeding; Macrofauna; Baltic Sea; Terrestrial; freshwater and marine ecology; Terrestisk; limnisk och marin ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : A low content of organic matter, which is largely refractory in nature, is characteristic of most sediments, meaning that aquatic deposit-feeders live on a very poor food source. The food is derived mainly from sedimenting phytodetritus, and in temperate waters like the Baltic Sea, from seasonal phytoplankton blooms. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Effects of Orexins, Guanylins and Feeding on Duodenal Bicarbonate Secretion and Enterocyte Intracellular Signaling

    Författare :Magnus Wilhelm Bengtsson; Gunnar Flemström; Olof Nylander; Karl E. O. Åkerman; Per M. Hellström; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Physiology; alkaline secretion; carbohydrates; central nervous system; cholinergic stimulation; duodenum; enteric nervous system; enterochromaffin cell; fasting; feeding; glucose; guanylyl cyclase C; humans; hypocretin; intra-arterial; in situ; intracerebroventricular; luminal acid; luzindole; orexin-B; SB-334867; Fysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The duodenal epithelium secretes bicarbonate ions and this is regarded as the primary defence mechanism against the acid discharged from the stomach. For an efficient protection, the duodenum must also function as a sensory organ identifying luminal factors. LÄS MER

  4. 4. The Invasion of the Zebra Mussel - Effects on Phytoplankton Community Structure and Ecosystem Function

    Författare :Rahmat Naddafi; Kurt Pettersson; Peter Eklöv; Willem Goedkoop; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Invasive species; Zebra mussel; Invasion success; Selective feeding; Non-lethal effects of predator; Seston stoichiometry; Delayed fluorescence excitation spectroscopy; Phytoplankton dynamics; Trait-mediated indirect interaction; Ecosystem function;

    Sammanfattning : Biological invasion has become a major threat to economy, ecology, global biodiversity and ecosystem function of aquatic ecosystems. The main aim of the thesis was to study the effects of the zebra mussel (Dreissena polymorpha), a versatile invasive species, on phytoplankton dynamics and ecosystem function of lakes. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Quantum-state Selective Nuclear Decay Spectroscopy

    Författare :Ch. Lorenz; Kärnfysik; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; nuclear structure; alpha decay; beta decay; gamma rays; spectroscopy; Penning traps; shell-model calculations; Geant4 Monte Carlo Simulations;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis focusses on the results of two experiments employing Penning traps to prepare pure beams of the 213Ra ground state and 127Cd, which were then studied with the decay-spectroscopy setup TASISpec. The experiments were conducted with SHIPTRAP at the GSI Helmholtzzentrum für Schwerionenforschung in Darmstadt, Germany, and JYFLTRAP at the IGISOL Accelerator Facility at the University of Jyväskylä, Finland.
