  1. 1. Pawsitive selection : Genetics of dog-human communication

    Författare :Mia Persson; Per Jensen; Lina Roth; Dominic Wright; Ádám Miklósi; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Through domestication and recent selection, dogs have evolved a unique set of communicative skills to attract and redirect human attention. These social skills have not been seen to the same extent in socialised wolves and are therefore believed to have a significant genetic basis. LÄS MER

  2. 2. The Effects of Mutation and Selection on the Rate and Pattern of Molecular Evolution in Birds

    Författare :Sofia Berlin; Hans Ellegren; Adam Eyre-Walker; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Molecular genetics; substitution rate; diversity; selection; male mutation bias; birds; Genetik; Genetics; Genetik;

    Sammanfattning : By comparing sequence diversity and divergence on sex chromosomes one can study how the rate of evolution in affected by mutation and/or selection. The rate of mutation in male biased, meaning that relatively more mutations are created in the male germ line than in the female. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Detecting Sex and Selection in Ancient Cattle Remains Using Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms

    Författare :Emma M Svensson; Anders Götherström; Juha Kantanen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANITIES; HUMANIORA; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; HUMANIORA; NATURAL SCIENCES; HUMANITIES; aurochs; cattle; ancient DNA; SNP; pyrosequencing; selection; Bos taurus; Historical osteology; Historisk osteologi; Genetics; Genetik; Biology with specialization in Evolutionary Genetics; Biologi med inriktning mot evolutionär genetik;

    Sammanfattning : All contemporary taurine cattle originated some 10,000 years ago when their wild ancestor, the aurochs, was domesticated in the Near East. Although the aurochs was widespread also in Europe, there is no evidence for a local domestication. The aurochs has been extinct since 1627 and therefore little is known about its biology. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Effects of Selection and Demography on DNA Polymorphism in Black Mustard (Brassica nigra)

    Författare :Per Sjödin; Martin Lascoux; Ulf Lagercrantz; Mikkel Schierup; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Molecular genetics; population genetics; Genetik; Genetics; Genetik;

    Sammanfattning : The evolution of three genes from the CONSTANS-LIKE gene family is studied in Brassica nigra. We use a combination of population genetic and phylogenetic techniques in order to assess the relative importance of selection and demography on the pattern of DNA variation. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Domestication Effects on the Stress Response in Chickens : Genetics, Physiology, and Behaviour

    Författare :Amir Fallahshahroudi; Per Jensen; Frank Albert; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; NATURVETENSKAP; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; NATURAL SCIENCES; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; Animal domestication; stress response; gene expression; QTL; eQTL;

    Sammanfattning : Animal domestication, the process where animals become adapted to living in proximity to humans, is associated with the alteration of multiple traits, including decreased fearfulness and stress response. With an estimated population of 50 billion, the domesticated chicken is the most populous avian species in the world. LÄS MER
