16. Geochemistry of coastal Baltic sediments : processes and sampling procedures
Sammanfattning : Quantitative and experimental studies on Recent sedimentary processes, with particular reference to element dynamics and mass transport, were conducted in a coastal area of the north-western Baltic proper. A five-year geochemical study reports sediment trap catches, and estimates the flux dynamics of resuspended sediments and primary settling matter. LÄS MER
17. Contribution of stormwater ponds for road runoff to aquatic biodiversity
Sammanfattning : The increased recognition that roads may impair the aquatic environment and ecosystems has led to a shift from conventional drainage systems toward blue-green solutions such as stormwater ponds. Research on blue-green stormwater solutions has until now mainly focused on water quantity and quality. LÄS MER
18. Manganese cycling in the Baltic Sea over the last ~8000 years: the influence of redox conditions on mineral formation and burial
Sammanfattning : The Baltic Sea is one of the largest brackish water bodies in the world and is suffering extensive environmental issues caused by eutrophication and warming climate. A halocline in the water column divides more saline bottom water fed by inflows through the narrow connection with the North Sea from the surface waters and inhibiting exchange of oxygen between the two water masses. 19. Paleolimnological reconstructions of fish population changes in acidified lakes
Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with the potential of using subfossil Chaoborus spp. and Daphnia spp. remains preserved in lake sediments to reveal past fish community alterations related to progressive acidification. LÄS MER
20. Molecular and isotopic characterization of terrestrial organic carbon released to (sub-)Arctic coastal waters
Sammanfattning : Arctic soils store half of the global soil organic carbon (OC) pool and twice as much C as is currently present in the atmosphere. A considerable part of these carbon pools are stored in permafrost. LÄS MER
