  1. 1. Protein targeting, translocation and insertion in Escherichia coli : Proteomic analysis of substrate-pathway relationships

    Författare :Louise Baars; Jan-Willem de Gier; Jan-Maarten van Dijl; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; protein biogenesis; targeting; translocation; insertion; SecB; SecE; E. coli; Biochemistry; Biokemi; biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Approximately 10% of the open reading frames in the genome of the Gram-negative bacterium E. coli encodes secretory proteins, and 20% encodes integral inner membrane proteins (IMPs). LÄS MER

  2. 2. Membrane Protein Biogenesis in Escherichia coli : A proteomics approach

    Författare :David Vikström; Jan-Willem de Gier; Eitan Bibi; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SRP; YidC; SecE; Membrane protein biogenesis; protein targeting; 2D BN SDS-PAGE; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Sammanfattning : In the bacterium Escherichia coli all proteins are synthesized in the cytoplasm. However, at least 25% of them then need to be exported to another cellular compartment where they exert their function. E. coli has several different targeting pathways to ensure the correct localization of its proteins. LÄS MER

  3. 3. tRNA Gene Structures in Bacteria

    Författare :B. M. Fredrik Pettersson; Leif A. Kirsebom; Anders Byström; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cell and molecular biology; Cell- och molekylärbiologi; mikrobiologi; Microbiology;

    Sammanfattning : In bacteria, tRNA molecules are produced as precursors with additional nucleotides both upstream and downstream of the tRNA coding sequence. To generate a mature tRNA, the endoribonuclease RNase P removes the upstream sequence, while a number of enzymes can remove the downstream sequence. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Cell cycle analysis of archaea

    Författare :Andrzej Poplawski; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cell and molecular biology; Cell- och molekylärbiologi; Cell and molecular biology; Cell- och molekylärbiologi; mikrobiologi; Microbiology;

    Sammanfattning : In my thesis, the cell cycle analysis of archaea and hyperthermophilic organisms is presented for the first time. Crenarchaea from the genus Sulfolobus were used as a model system. Plow cytometry and light microscopy were applied to investigate the timing and coordination of different cell cycle events. LÄS MER
