  1. 1. Seagrass productivity : from plant to system

    Författare :Diana Deyanova; Mats Björk; Mirta Teichberg; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Seagrass; Chlorophyll a fluorescence; Ageing; Productivity; Seasonality; Stress response; Plant Physiology; växtfysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Seagrasses form one of the most productive habitats on earth and are recognized as very efficient carbon sinks. The levels and patterns of productivity within and across different seagrass systems vary widely due to natural or human-induced factors. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Seagrass Respiration : An assessment of oxygen consumption patterns of temperate marine macrophytes

    Författare :Lina M. Rasmusson; Mats Björk; Martin Gullström; Katharina Pawlowski; Jonas Collén; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mitochondrial respiration; Photorespiration; Seagrass productivity; Zostera marina; Marine carbon budgets; Ruppia maritima; Ulva intestinalis; Plant Physiology; växtfysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : In coastal seas, the abundance of marine macrophytes has profound influence on the flows of oxygen and inorganic carbon through the water. Vast amounts of carbon dioxide are taken up by photosynthesis and part of this is respired back into the water column. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Of seagrass and society : Exploring contributions of tropical seagrass meadows to food security

    Författare :Benjamin Jones; Johan S. Eklöf; Lina M. Nordlund; Leanne C. Cullen-Unsworth; Richard K.F. Unsworth; Maricela de la Torre-Castro; Christina Hicks; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Biodiversity; Blue food; Food security; Social-ecological systems; Small-scale fisheries; Seagrass meadows; marinbiologi; Marine Biology;

    Sammanfattning : Conserving biodiversity while simultaneously feeding a growing population is one of the grand challenges of the Anthropocene. Recently, global assessments have shone a light on the importance of the marine environment for the supply of food (often termed blue food), as well as the diverse and many livelihood opportunities associated to it. 4. 4. Carbon sequestration processes in tropical seagrass beds

    Författare :Liberatus Dominick Lyimo; Mats Björk; Martin Gullström; Mariam Hamis; Teresa Alcoverro; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Seagrass; Carbon sequestration; Carbon sink; Eutrophication; Productivity; Nitrous oxide; Methane; Greenhouse gases; Tropical; Eastern Africa; Plant Physiology; växtfysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Seagrass meadows may play a substantial role in climate change mitigation as they are capable to sequester and store substantial amounts of anthropogenic carbon in plant biomass and, more importantly, in their underlying sediments. In this PhD thesis, the carbon-burial potential was assessed by quantifying the amount of organic carbon stored in different seagrass meadows, each dominated by one of the four major seagrass species in the Western Indian Ocean region. 5. 5. Swedish seagrass ecosystems in a changing climate : Coastal connectivity and global change sensitivity

    Författare :Diana Perry; Martin Gullström; Jason Hall-Spencer; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; coastal seascape; shallow-water ecosystems; fish assemblages; connectivity; global change; climate change; multiple stressors; seagrass; Zostera marina; temperate region; Marine Ecology; marin ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : Coastal shallow-water ecosystems are essential for providing several goods and services globally, with seagrasses as an important contributor for maintaining high biodiversity and productivity within the nearshore seascape. The temperate species Zostera marina serves as a vital habitat for many species, including ecologically and economically important juvenile fish. LÄS MER
