  1. 1. Seeking Middle-Classness : University Students in Iraqi Kurdistan

    Författare :Katrine Scott; Genusvetenskapliga institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; middle-classness; youth; universities; students; urban; post-conflict; war; narratives; stories; representations; figurations; normality; Middle East; Iraq; Iraqi Kurdistan; ethnography; autoethnography; feminist queer postcolonial epistemologies;

    Sammanfattning : Narratives of middle-classness are often missing from Western representations of wartorn regions in the Global South more generally and from the Middle East in particular. This thesis is concerned with stories of desires for ordinary everyday middle-class lives among young adult university students in urban Iraqi Kurdistan. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Environmental compensation is not for the birds : assessing social welfare impacts of resource-based environmental compensation

    Författare :Scott Cole; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : The European Union (EU) recently implemented the Environmental Liability Directive (ELD), requiring that environmental damage be restored so that the affected environment returns to (or toward) its baseline condition and the public is compensated for the initial damage and the losses during the time it takes for the environment to recover (interim losses). Equivalency Analysis (EA) represents a method for scaling environmental compensation to offset interim losses. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Environmental compensation using Resource Equivalency Analysis (REA) and Habitat Equivalency Analysis (HEA): is it just for the birds? : determining whether society is better off following resource-based compensation

    Författare :Scott Cole; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Sammanfattning : Environmental compensation is the provision of natural resources through a restoration project, which is scaled to ensure the public is compensated for the environmental damage. The European Union (EU) recently implemented the Environmental Liability Directive (ELD), requiring that environmental damage be remediated (restored) so that the affected environment returns to (or toward) its baseline condition and the public is compensated for the initial damage and the losses during the time it takes for the environment to recover (interim losses). 4. 4. Gamma Spectroscopy and Gamma Emission Tomography for Fuel Performance Characterization of Irradiated Nuclear Fuel Assemblies

    Författare :Scott Holcombe; Staffan Jacobsson Svärd; Hans-Urs Zwicky; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Nuclear fuel performance; Nuclear fuel assemblies; Gamma emission tomography; Gamma spectroscopy;

    Sammanfattning : Gamma spectroscopy and gamma emission tomography are two non-destructive measurement techniques for assessing the performance of nuclear fuel which have been investigated in this thesis for existing and novel applications through theoretical studies and experimental demonstrations. For assessment of individual fuel rods using gamma spectroscopy, fuel assemblies are dismantled so that the fuel rods may be measured separately, which is time-consuming and may cause damage to the fuel. 5. 5. Nondestructive Fission Gas Measurements by Means of Gamma Spectroscopy and Gamma Tomography

    Författare :Scott Holcombe; Staffan Jacobsson Svärd; Guido Ledergerber; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fysik med inriktning mot tillämpad kärnfysik; Physics with specialization in Applied Nuclear Physics;

    Sammanfattning : There is a continuous need in the nuclear industry to characterize irradiated nuclear fuel rods and assemblies, both for fuel performance and for safeguards purposes, and consequently there are various destructive and nondestructive measurement techniques available to meet this need. Gamma spectroscopy is one such nondestructive technique, which has been extensively used for a variety of fuel characterization applications. LÄS MER
