1. Optics for Earth Observation Instruments
Sammanfattning : The optical system is an essential part of every remote sensing instrument used for detecting electromagnetic waves. Careful design, fabrication and characterization is therefore crucial, especially for satellite-borne missions where the possibility of post-launch repairs is highly limited. LÄS MER
2. New perspectives in mesospheric wave dynamics and oxygen photochemistry
Sammanfattning : The mesosphere is the region of the atmosphere between 50km to 100km, where both dynamical and photochemical aspects play important roles for the thermal balance. This thesis focuses on the following three areas for mesospheric studies: wave dynamics, oxygen photochemistry and retrieval using the optimal estimation method. LÄS MER
3. O2 and OH airglow in the mesosphere through the lens of Odin/OSIRIS Infrared Imager
Sammanfattning : Observing airglow emissions allows us to explore the chemical composition and dynamics of the upper mesosphere. The Odin satellite has routinely measured O2(a1∆g) and OH Meinel band airglow emissions from 2001 until 2015. In this thesis, the Odin/OSIRIS infrared imager data have been studied in some depth for the first time. LÄS MER
4. Satellite microwave measurements of cloud ice properties
Sammanfattning : Upper tropospheric cloud ice and water vapour are two intimately connected components of the atmosphere, that influence the Earth's energy budget. The response of these components to a warming climate is not well understood. LÄS MER
5. Microwave Radiometric Observations of the Middle Atmosphere: Simulations and Inversions
Sammanfattning : Two well-known examples of global environmental problems are the ozone depletion and the enhanced greenhouse effect. The importance and the complexity of these questions generate a demand for improved atmospheric observations, and microwave radiometry is an approach which is increasingly important for measurements of the middle atmosphere (10-100 km).
